Annually, 42 staff members provide services and education to over 2,000 people living with HIV and prevention services to over 3,500 people in our community.
Our Mission is to serve people living with or at risk for HIV with dignity and respect.
In our community, people living will with HIV receive quality care, and new infections are rare.

The MPowerment Coordinator works with the Community Health team and project volunteers to ensure the fulfillment of project goals. Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
General Programming and Administrative Duties:
  • Works with Director of Community Health regarding budgetary and finance issues, including the timely handling of invoices and receipts in accordance with policies.
  • Orders materials for project space and for safer sex promotion materials (condoms & lube).
  • Inputs data into program database.
  • Submits monthly reports, specifically on outreach contacts, drop-in numbers, Core group attendance, M-group event attendance, informal outreach.
  • Meets with Director of Community Health on an ongoing basis regarding program and administrative issues.
  • Send program calendar of events to Director of Community Health by 3rd of each month.

Large Events
  • Coordinates Large Event planning.
  • Manages logistics for securing space & working with outside vendors
  • Manages extras needed for event (e.g., sports equipment, supplies, etc.).
  • Orders refreshments, decorations, and ensuring the timely set-up of the event.
  • Inviting Core Group input regarding large & medium events and refreshments.
  • Supervise activities during events.
  • Ensures events stay on schedule.
  • Helps recruit and train volunteers and volunteer facilitators.

Small and Medium Group Coordination (includes M-Group/Core Group)
  • Implements all facets of small weekly events. Small Events: Events reaching 10-30 young men who have sex with men (YMSM); these events are small in scale but keep participants active in the project. Examples of small events include TV nights, movie nights, game nights, and fitness nights.
  • Facilitates meetings of medium-sized events/activities and the Core group and M-group. Medium monthly events: Events reaching 30-100 young YMSM; these events are developed by the Core Group to be appealing and appropriate for diverse YMSM in the local community. Examples of these activities include house parties, picnics and community forums.
  • Prepares project space for small; and medium-sized events, activities and meetings.
  • Coordinates refreshments for small and medium group meetings.
  • Keeps track of small group documentation and files documentation.
  • Helps recruit and train volunteers and volunteer facilitators.

Team Coordination
  • Schedules and attends Core Group meetings and sets out initial event plans, which are reviewed.
  • Purchases and prepares refreshments for most events at project space; if not there himself then finds someone who will be in charge of putting refreshments out.

M-group Recruitment
  • Develops systems to recruit participants to M-groups.
  • Reviews how recruitment systems are working, and with assistance from Director of Community Health analyzes what is working and what is not working and develops new strategies, as needed.
  • Assists in making phone calls or social networking contacts to recruit new men to groups, and to remind participants to attend.
  • Uses community contacts and current project members to recruit men to M-groups from attendees to Core Group, and small, medium and large events.

M-group Preparation
  • Organize box of supplies and materials so that they are ready to be used for M-groups.
  • Prints other materials, as needed.

M-Groups:
No fewer than 5 YMSM will participate in each M-Group. All M-Groups will last a minimum of 2 hours with a maximum time limit of 3 hours. Each session will be conducted as described within the interventions guidance. All M-Group sessions will provide referrals, as appropriate, to HIV/STD testing, HIV services, family violence services, substance abuse support groups and mental health services. All sessions of the M-Group will be documented using the M-Group sign-in sheet and DSHS MPowerment data sheet. Each session will address the following areas:
- Clearing up misconceptions about unsafe and safer sex.
- Increase the enjoyment of safer sex.
- Building communication and negotiating skills (role play).
- Addressing interpersonal issues that may interfere with safer sex.
- Planning ahead to have safer sex.
- Social norms about safer sex.
- Social support to have safer sex.
- Increase awareness of harm reduction.
- Increase awareness of HIV testing resources.
- Safer sex gift bags.
Event Coordination
  • Implements all facets of large, bi-monthly events: Events reaching 100 or more YMSM; these events are also developed by the Core Group to be appealing and appropriate for diverse YMSM in the local community. Examples of these events include flirt nights at local clubs, block parties and gay prom.
  • Assembles supplies for events.
  • Confirms availability of event spaces.
  • Create event safer sex activity/messaging in collaboration with the core group.
  • Recruit volunteers to staff events as necessary.
  • Assist in the creation of promotional material for events.
  • Keeps track of all records, receipts and invoices.

Formal Outreach/Promotion Team Coordination
  • Implements all facets of bar/community event zaps: These promotional and community-level efforts will target LGBTQ community events, local bars, and other hangouts, where YMSM congregate. Zap team members will wear program or themed attire and disseminate safer sex materials and program information.
  • Promotes MPowerment events and activities through outreach team activities.
  • Figures out ways to make outreach team meetings fun and social and promotes the idea that they are fun and social to participants.
  • Coordinates design and preparation of project outreach activities (bar zaps and formal outreach events).
  • Develops list of talking points about how to describe the project for outreach team members.
  • Works out logistics with club owners/managers/promoters to ensure that outreach team has access to businesses/venues to conduct outreach.
  • Ensures the collection of contact information during outreach of potential project participants.
  • Ensures that photos are taken at all outreach activities.

Project Materials Creation and Development:
  • In accordance with material review policies, oversees the creation and development of all materials for general project publicity and social events, as well as safer sex and HIV testing promotion, as needed:

Weekly events (posted on social network sites and traditional advertising media, such as palm cards, as needed).
Large events (social media posts and other media).
Safer sex and testing promotional materials.
  • Coordinates Publicity Committee, as needed, which focuses on the creation of materials.
  • Obtains Core Group feedback about materials.
  • Helps train volunteers in creation of materials.
  • Recruits volunteers for Publicity Committee, if assembled, to ensure the timely dissemination of those products out into the community.
  • Submits all materials for review and approval to the Director of Community Health.
  • Keep evaluation forms in folder.
  • Organizes and creates monthly calendar with input from Core Group and other MPowerment participants, as needed.

Publicity
  • Revises and keeps Publicity Plan up to date.
  • Ensures that Publicity Plan and Publicity Campaign are implemented.
  • Works with Core Group (or Publicity Committee) for materials placement in the community (including businesses & other community venues).
  • Ensures that materials created are in project space (i.e., safer sex materials, testing materials, Core Group promotional materials, project promotional materials).
  • Obtains Core Group feedback about publicity strategies.

Publicity Campaign
All publicity campaign materials will be used in variety of settings within the intervention and community. All materials should be developed with the help of the Core Group. The program is required to have a basic publicity campaign promoting each ongoing activity (M-Group and Core Group) safer sex and specific media for each event. All materials will be YMSM-focused, will represent the diversity of the community and will be developed within the guidelines of the intervention. The program also will create posts and other advertisements to recruit the priority population to events, M-Groups and Core Groups. Specific materials to promote safer sex behaviors among local YMSM will be developed, as well. All materials will be distributed throughout the community in areas where the target population congregates. Each specific campaign will address the following areas:
Transgender Hormone Therapy Clinic
  • Works as part of a team.
  • Coordinates all facets of the transgender hormone replacement therapy program.
  • Recruits participants for the clinic and other programs through a variety of outreach activities.
  • Works with the nurse practitioner (provider) and sets clinic schedules and conducts clinic activities.
  • Conducts oneself professionally and in a culturally sensitive manner at all times.
  • Provides trans clinic intake with each client, including obtaining medical, sexual, and other information and explaining the different aspects of the trans program.
  • Establishes, tracks, and maintains clinic client appointments and communication.
  • Submits and tracks lab requisitions prior to each trans clinic day.
  • Inventories and tracks clinical supplies.
  • Prepares clinic charts with labs and any necessary documentation for clinic days.
  • Greets clinic clients and updates client information upon their arrival or call.
  • Conducts pre-exam patient vitals to ensure nurse practitioner sees clients on time.
  • Provides education regarding medication dosing, administration, and side effects.
  • Liaises communication between client and nurse practitioner, as needed.
  • Transmits prescriptions and refills to pharmacies as directed by nurse practitioner.
  • Troubleshoots pharmacy issues on behalf of clients regarding dosing or other medication questions.
  • Provides clients with information on gender marker services.
  • Maintains trans program clinic charts for client follow-up.
  • Follows best gender care best practices and manages patient situations.
  • Troubleshoots lab, e-prescription, and other service issues, etc., as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Programmatic
  • Coordinates client referrals to behavioral health and other services, as needed.
  • Tracks, monitors, and maintains essential supplies.
  • Work with different databases.
  • Drives mobile testing unit, as needed.
  • Provides client phone consultation as needed.
  • Attends department, agency, and other meetings, as required.
  • Fulfills all other tasks as assigned.
  • HIV/STD Testing: Ensures the provision of HIV/STI testing to the priority population, as needed.

Other Duties: Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor/director.
