The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Employment and Training Services, is recruiting for an
Employment Services Manager 1 located in Nome! No Cover Letter Required!
This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 16.
What You Will Be Doing:
The Employment Services Manager 1 (Job Center Manager) is responsible for the delivery of employment and training services in Nome, Kotzebue and the balance of the Northern Economic Region, to include all planning, organizing and scheduling for the offices. The Nome Job Center is a one person office and administers the programmatic functions provided under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The Job Center Manager is an essential part of the Northern, Interior and Southwest Regions Leadership Team, working collaboratively to provide integrated Employment Services to Alaskan job seekers and employers all over the State. It is the intent for the incumbent to travel to Kotzebue for approximately one week of every month to provide services at the Kotzebue Satellite Job Center.
This position provides a variety of services to employers (recruitment and job posting assistance, resume/application screening, etc.) and job seekers (resume writing, interviewing skills, cover letter assistance, job search assistance, labor market research, career exploration, eligibility, case management services and more).

The work week for this position is 37.5 hours.
The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This uniquely rewarding position is stationed in the heart of Nome, in the Nome State Office building, 103 Front Street, Suite 230. The Nome State Office building has free parking with electrical plug-ins for winter use and is located next to the Subway restaurant and movie theatre. The office is located on the second floor of the State Office building which looks out over the Norton Sound of the Bering Sea. Winter months you can expect to see seals and the occasional walrus floating by on ice floes. The kitchen and dining area are also located on the second floor where staff often view the end of the Iditarod Sled Dog race. Summer months provide job seekers and staff the opportunity to watch whales, seals and salmon jumping just a few feet from the shore. Boat activity includes cruise ships, Coast Guard, ocean dredges, fisherman and barge traffic headed into the port.
The itinerant office space occupied one week of each month is located in the Alaska Technical Center (ATC) building at 843 4th Street in Kotzebue.
The daily work environment is full of a variety of ever-changing priorities and assignments and involves extensive public contact via phone, email, video communication, as well as face to face, to explain and elicit information regarding procedures, services, and/or requirements relating to Employment Services and training services provided through the Alaska Job Center Network.
This position requires regular local travel, monthly in-state travel, and the ability to access correctional facilities.
