About the Department:The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division serve the community of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.
Facilities Human Resources is the first point of contact for the Facilities Division staff for all HR needs to include timekeeping, payroll, leave administration, hiring, classification and compensation, training coordination and performance management. With a focus on the unique needs of the Facilities Division, Facilities Human Resources strives to provide HR support and services that are relevant, effective and streamlined. We align our programs and service offerings to the organizational goals, objectives and values of the Division.
The Employee Relations Consultant is an essential member of the Facilities Human Resources team. Position works closely with all supervisors and employees in the division to foster a collaborative environment to ensure compliance of federal and state regulations, University policies, and Facilities Division procedures are met.
Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serving as the first point of contact for Employee Relations questions, issues, or incidents within the Facilities Division.
- Delivering Employee Relations guidance to supervisors and employees.
- Administering the day-to-day responsibilities of the Employee Relations process.
- Acting as the liaison between the division and the University Human Resources Employee Relations team.
- Providing recommendations to division senior leadership regarding workforce behavior trends.
- Oversight of the performance management program, ensuring achievement of desired results.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for performance management and Employee Relations matters.
- Applying knowledge of federal and state laws, university policies, and procedures to consult with division staff and provide recommendations to resolve Employee Relations issues.
- Partnering with University Human Resources Employee Relations staff to determine and implement appropriate steps for progressive disciplinary action.
- Involving campus partners such as Campus Police, the Behavioral Assessment Team, or the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity in Employee Relations cases as warranted.
- Collaborating with University Human Resources Employee Relations staff to address Employee Relations concerns effectively.
Other Responsibilities:
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills.
- Thorough understanding of recruiting methods and best practices, as well as applicable policies and federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Expert knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action requirements.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Google G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- A strong background in human resources, preferably with experience specifically in Employee Relations or a related field.
