Position Summary
The Public Information Associate (Employee & Brand Communications Associate position will have responsibility for the development and management of both internal and external employee and Brand Communications for UI Health. The manager is skilled in writing, brand management, and developing and executing strategic messaging campaigns. The candidate possesses an understanding of legacy and social media and stakeholder engagement.
Manages the writing, editing, and creative strategy for employee- and brand-focused content across all marketing and communications channels, including social media channels, the hospital website and employee intranet, and external media. Stays abreast of healthcare brand, marketing, and communications trends.
Responsible for content creation and content management that supports employee engagement and talent acquisition and retention tactics for the University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics, and UI Health brand awareness, in support of the organizational strategic goals and initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Department's primary resource for copy writing for employee- and brand-targeted communications, including recruitment campaigns (print and digital advertising; radio and television commercials; and out-of-home and transit advertising).
  • Primary resource for managing social media channels for the University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics, including content creation, channel programming and monitoring, and service/support. Works with departments/programs to coordinate the creation of individual social media accounts. Ensures departments/clinics operate social channels according to brand guidelines.
  • Serves as department's active liaison with Human Resources. Works to improve and expand UI Health HR's online presence. Tracks campaigns and reports on the status of initiatives. Prepares and presents as-needed reports for managers and leadership.
  • Supports Assistant Director of Strategic Communications in the development and execution of communications and presentations for Hospital & Clinics leadership and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, including, research, writing, and design. Supports Marketing & Strategic Communications leadership on strategic initiatives, including work with third-party vendors, hiring, and other departmental administrative initiatives.
  • Provides production support for media segments and other photography/videography, including composing production notes and scripts; trafficking assets; and day-of/onsite support.
  • Develops and produces and news articles, patient stories, and other communications for Hospital website and internal promotional channels.
  • Other duties as appropriate for a Communications Associate.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    1. Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, radio/television broadcasting, web/digital media, or a related field.
    2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in public relations, journalism, social media communications, newspaper reporting, radio/television broadcasting with emphasis on production, or web/digital media.
    3. Demonstrated experience writing for both internal (staff) and external audiences & demonstrated knowledge of social media management.
    Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Previous experience working in an academic or healthcare setting.
    2. Familiar with project management techniques and best practices.
    3. Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
    4. Some working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and preparing image files for web.
