Job Description
Are you an Emergency Medicine Physician interested in Consulting with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services?
Incumbents in this job evaluate patient needs, review cases, and administer appropriate Emergency Medicine assessment and recommendations based on patient information.
Note: as of April 8, 2024, DHHS employees will be working a hybrid schedule, which may include 2 office days per week and 3 telework days.

Example of Duties
  • Serve on Utah's weekly Medicaid Medical Review Committee to review prior authorization decisions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to coordinate care and promote preventative services.
  • Analyze data and utilize evidence-based practices to provide recommendations on clinical decision-making.
  • Stay up-to-date on trends and best practices in healthcare quality and population health.
  • Provide expertise in best standards of care.
  • No direct patient care.

Typical Qualifications
  • Emergency Medicine Physician, licensed in the state of Utah
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare quality and population health
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze data and use evidence-based practices to inform decision-making
  • Commitment to improving the health and well-being of Medicaid members in Utah

Supplemental Information
  • Current unlimited Emergency Medicine Physician license in the State of Utah (MD).
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • Effective July 1, 2021, State of Utah Employees must either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
