Salary: $67,262.66 - $115,061.21 Annually

This position is a full-time faculty tenure track 10-month classroom teaching assignment in the Health and Safety Division. The current teaching load is 15-lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5-office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees are expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in onsite, online and hybrid format, evening, and/or Saturday classes and clinical instruction. This position will be reassigned approximately 25% load corresponding to 10 hours per week to carry out Paramedic Program Director duties (required by regulatory agencies) for the Antelope Valley College Paramedic Program.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

• Teach 15-lecture hour equivalencies per semester in Emergency Medical Technologies using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies.  

• Maintain 5-office hours per week. 

• Responsible for preparation time. 

• Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing outcomes analysis, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to advance the college's mission and strategic goals.  

• Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.  

• Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc. 

• Provide an environment conducive to effective learning. 

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 

• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work. 

• Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. 

• Travel between district locations is also expected. 

• Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

Most current Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in California Community Colleges: Any Bachelor’s or higher AND two years of professional experience.

A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 § 53024.1).

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Current within the last year or continuously active Paramedic, licensed in the State of California OR Physician or registered nurse, licenses in the State of California.

CPR certification for the healthcare provider (BLS).

Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire. 

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS 

• The course director shall have a minimum of one (1) year experience in an administrative or management level position and have a minimum of three (3) years academic or clinical experience in pre-hospital care education within the last five (5) years. 

• Licenses and certifications: NREMT-P, PALS, ACLS, PHTLS.

• Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience. 

• Have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care. 

• Have academic training and preparation related to Emergency Medical services at least equivalent to that of a paramedic.

• Have knowledge of current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software.

• Be knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students. 

• Be knowledgeable concerning current national curricula, national accreditation, and national registration. 

• Have the ability to learn and understand district policies and procedures. 

• Experience with establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties. 

 

OTHER INFORMATION

PHYSICAL EFFORT: 

• Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors.

• Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email. 

• Sit or stand for extended periods of time. 

• Lift and/or carry 50 pounds; and 

• Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
