An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a pre-hospital healthcare professional that performs basic level life support with stabilization procedures and provides Emergency Medical care and transportation. LifeCare EMTs are responsible for responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons, and transporting persons to and from emergency and other healthcare facilities. Work includes assuring that quality emergency patient care standards are in place, proper equipment and treatments are available, and using sound judgment to make treatment decisions. LifeCare operates an advanced life support system where EMTs are most often paired with and work under the direction of paramedics as part of an ambulance crew, but given the rural nature of Roseau County, EMTs do often serve independently as the highest-level provider on the ambulance. To support that, LifeCare EMTs receive training in an advanced scope of practice including supraglottic airway insertion, obtaining intravenous access, and administering several emergency medications. When needed, LifeCare EMTs also serve as hospital emergency department team members, working under the direction of the staff physicians, mid-levels, and nurses to the full EMT scope of practice. EMTs also provide minimal supervision of lower-level personnel. All EMS personnel perform in accordance with established standard operating guidelines and under EMS Medical Director-approved protocols.
Work is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, noise, vibrations, hazards associated with Emergency Medical work including exposures to fumes, odors, dusts mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils. Because of the nature of the work, the employee is exposed to human blood and is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.

You're an excellent fit, if you have:
- Successful completion of a DOT-approved EMT course
- Current valid driver's license
- Minnesota EMT licensure
- National Registry EMT certification (NREMT)
- AHA Basic Life Support certification
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site Emergency Medical services
- Ability to write simple correspondence or reports
- Ability to remain calm and problem solve
- Hood interpersonal skills
- Excellent listening and communication skills
