Summary
Performs basic life support (BLS) services and assists in Emergency Medical, traumatic, psychiatric care, and stabilization for patients in accidents or illness scenes and during transportation to medical facilities and/or during transport.
Job Duties
- Represents the ambulance service while on duty at public service functions, expositions, and other public events and provides ambulance stand by services, when necessary.
- Assists with advanced life support (ALS ) services for paramedic partners with patients requiring higher levels of care along with emergency scene management and coordination with other emergency services.
- Care for patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic care by providing medical, traumatic, and therapeutic services.
- Documents full assessment and treatments in patient care charting software.
- Serves as a member of a two-member ambulance crew responding to emergency and nonemergency calls.
- Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
- Responds to instructions from a dispatcher and drives and operates specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations at a safe and controlled speed.
- Communicate with professional medical personnel at an emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment.
- Stabilizes, immobilizes, lifts, and moves victims from the scene of accident or catastrophe.
- Establishes an equipment inspection schedule and verifies that all equipment is being inspected and reviewed for compliance and makes recommendations for risk reductions in workplace injuries. Cleans and decontaminates ambulances after transporting or treating any patient.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED and
- Less than 1 year
- The ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations.
- The ability to multitask and to utilize critical thinking.
- The ability to drive an ambulance safely under various weather conditions.
- Demonstrates and adheres to program policies and procedures regarding ambulance safety and transport communications.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
- Driver's License 21 years of age required to drive apparatus Upon Hire
- Health Services\BCLS - Basic Life Support American Heart Association
- EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Basic
- EMSVO Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of college and
- NIMS 100,200,700
- EMT - Emergency Medical Tech National Registry
Physical Demands
Lift over 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 140 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. short distances. Frequent standing/walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching overhead.
