Position: PARAMEDIC
Location: Cobleskill, NY
Pay Range: $29.35 per hour
Reports to: Rescue Squad Line Officers , Rescue Squad ALS Coordinator
General Description
This role primarily provides first-line patient care at the Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Paramedic level, responding to emergency incidents, either in an ambulance or first-response vehicle, in a safe and expeditious manner. The Paramedic may also be utilized for inter facility transport requests, as required. During the shift, the employee carries out general job functions/duties and serves as a model employee and key surveillance point for issues that may affect operations and employee safety.
This work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations that affect the company’s operations. These policies and procedures may exist in the form of formal written guidance or through reasonable familiarity with the common practice that exists in a particular operational area.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or General Eduation Diploma (GED)
- Current NYS Paramedic Certification
- Current AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification(s)
- Acceptable NYS Drivers License, Driving Record, and Background Check
- FEMA Incident Command: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800
Preferred Qualifications, Education, & Experience:
- Current Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), PHTLS or ITLS Certification
- Current Critical Care Paramedic Certification (CCEMT-P, CCP-C, FP-C)
- Associate, Bachelor, or Master’s Degree in Emergency Management, Business or Public
Administration, Paramedicine, or related field, or commitment to completion thereof; if working towards a degree, commitment requires submission of an official grade report or transcript at the close of each semester.
Responsibilites:
- Arrives to work on-time, fit, and ready for duty - free of any concerns related to inadequate rest, current illness, injury, or impairment by any medication or substance.
- Ability to function as a competent independent Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider.
- Treats patients clinically appropriate, as per NYS Collaborative Protocol guidelines.
- Assesses and monitors vital signs and general appearance of patient for change.
- Assists with lifting, carrying, and properly safe loading of patients into the ambulance.
- Reports verbally and in writing observations of the patient’s chief complaint, secondary complaints, differential diagnosis, and treatment modalities provided.
- Performs daily vehicle, equipment, and supply inspections. Resolves any vehicle, equipment, or supply concerns in a timely manner, within their capability.
Skills:
- Ability to promote a professional work atmosphere, develop positive inter working relationships and publicly advocate for the betterment of EMS as a whole.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, specifically, the ability to complete ePCR’s in accordance with NYS DOH guidelines.
- Ability to properly communicate operational issues regarding their crew, vehicle, equipment, and supplies to the direct Supervisor.
- Receive complaints from other agencies, facility staff, patients, families, and others affected by the company's EMS operations, and immediately notifies appropriate officer.
