Job description

This is a paid internship, range of $18/hr - $21/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

Sound Transit has an exciting internship available for the summer of 2023! This is a great opportunity for currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students who want to observe and participate in real world application of their current field of study. This opportunity will allow the intern to gain valuable experience within the Public Safety division under our Safety department.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Sound Transit's Safety department oversees Emergency Management throughout the Puget Sound region - Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The Emergency Management Intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team that oversees our services and learn how a large regional transit system is managed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Assists with drills and exercises in preparation for revenue service within the system.
  • Assists with the development and preparation of Continuity of Operations Plans/Updates.
  • Attends committee meetings and take notes.
  • Reviews important certification documentations outlining necessary operational improvements.
  • Assist coordination and training of external / internal partners, and first responders.


POTENTIAL PROJECTS:

  • Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension Project.
  • Federal Way Link Extension Project.
  • East Link Extension.
  • Lynnwood Extension.
  • Safety and Security Hazard Management.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in Business Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or other non-technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Emergency Management, Safety, and/or Security.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
