Duties:
Assists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settings.Provides direct patient care, and/or one to one observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Assists, escorts and transports patients. Clinical/Technical/Service 1. Assists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in the ED setting 2. Provides direct patient care, and/or one to one constant or safety observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse 3. Assists, escorts and transports patients as needed 4. Performs and assists with designated procedures, using aseptic technique as indicated 5. Assists with patients examinations, and performs vital signs as ordered. 6. Obtains and provides nourishment for patients 7. Provides minor treatments as directed - dressings, application of Product bandages, applications of slings and ice, pediculosis 8. Assists with application of casts and splints9. Prepares, adjusts and teaches the use of crutches and canes as outlined by the RN/PT. 10. Is cognizant of the need for safety devices; applies or assists with application 11. Collects specimens, performs venipuncture and fingersticks for blood glucose 12. Obtains EKGs as ordered 13. Assists the healthcare team during medical, trauma, sepsis and stroke codes 14. Assists patients to get needed services by communicating those needs to the nurse 15. Communicates information to patients, families and visitors 16. Provides post-mortem care 17. Sets-up, stocks, and maintains examining rooms 18. Performs eye irrigations 19. Maintains BCLS certification as required by EMS standards 20. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area
Education:
Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program or equivalent. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree desirable. AHA HeartSaver or BLS Required.

Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others. Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community. Medical Office Assistant experience preferred.BCLS Certification required from American Heart Association. MS Office Suite (Basic Exp). Ability to read, write and comprehend English. Moderate physical activity required.
