REPORTS TO: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

LOCATION: Onsite. The company HQ is Boulder, Colorado.

JOB SUMMARY

The Embedded Software Developer will be responsible for leading and executing the design, implementation, and validation of complete embedded systems for small satellite hardware and components. They may be required to diagnose faults and troubleshoot code or systems. Additional duties may involve continuing and scheduled maintenance, assessment of quality control, and monitoring of systems performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other duties may be assigned

1. Familiarity of all phases of the project life-cycle (business development, mission formulation, requirements flow-down, manufacturing, integration and test, and on-orbit operations).
2. Contribute to the development of Embedded Software for Orbital Micro Systems’ satellite instruments
3. Develop Embedded Software specifications, design goals, and schedules in coordination with programmatic objectives
4. Design of software architecture across multiple embedded platforms
5. Embedded systems design for software/firmware architecture
6. Assist instrument testing and calibration activities, including remote sensing calibration algorithm development and studies of system performance metrics.
7. Perform software development across multiple platforms / hardware configurations
8. Development of Embedded Software for both embedded linux and bare-metal devices
9. Development of embedded linux operating system distributions 
10.  Write documentation for Embedded Software and hardware systems.
11. Design and write the Embedded Software code according to specifications.
12. Create effective technical documentation for software architecture and development procedures
13. Work closely with the overall Weather Stream team to help define what is needed and provide competitive solutions.
14. Support the overall Weather Stream team in executing flight programs that meet or beat technical and cost obligations.
15. Work closely with other contractors/team-mates in meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
16. Ensure all business is conducted using the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations as well as company policies and directives.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

1. Experience working with embedded Linux software and hardware (Xilinx Zynq SoC experience preferred).
2. Use of C++/C++11 for Embedded Software.
3. Experience in hands-on debugging and software development for embedded targets.
4. Adequate knowledge of reading schematics and datasheets for hardware components.
5. Familiarity with version control software such as git.
6. Experience using Python to support Embedded Software development.
7. Ability to work in a Unix environment, and familiarity with software development in Linux.
8. Experience in software development (Python, C/C++).
9. Demonstrated experience and skills in Electronics and Embedded Engineering.
10. Experience in Engineering process development and deployment.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

1. Experience in Aerospace and/or remote sensing disciplines.
2. Experience with FPGA/HDL design (Verilog preferred).
3. Experience with Yocto and PetaLinux

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. 2+ years of related experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

1. Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
2. 5+ years experience in Microwave Data Processing, RF Engineering and/or Aerospace

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. This job operates in a professional office environment and laboratory setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones, as well as lab equipment.
2. Normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment varies between quiet and moderate.
3. This is a full-time position, in-office. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may require long hours and weekend work.
4. Ability to work hybrid/remote, as approved.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Our commitment to your success is enhanced by our competitive salary of $82,000 - $100,000, with total compensation including stock options and benefits, plus potential to earn an annual bonus and merit increase.
