Job Title:                                            Embedded Medical Device Engineer

Job Reports To:                               CEO

Annual Salary Range:                     $80,000 - $110,000 + Company Profit-Sharing

FLSA:                                                Exempt

 

Company Overview:

RefloDx is a startup that spun out of the University of Utah with a mission to develop better diagnostics for better lives. The company is focused on bringing to the Medical Device market a novel noninvasive device, SondeFlux™, which uses the principles of ultrasound to detect and assess a patient’s risk of aspiration from esophageal reflux. This device allows clinicians and caregivers to quickly identify reflux as the underlying culprit in their pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, allowing for quicker treatment, problem resolution and decreased complications. The company is anticipating an exit in 3-4 years.

Position Overview:

This position will assist in the design, simulation, development, testing and product documentation for the embedded electronic components and/or firmware of SondeFlux. This includes problem observation, requirements gathering, brainstorming, specification reviews, design reviews, electronic schematics capture, PCB design, documentation packages, verification and validation (V&V) planning and execution, preproduction builds, regulatory testing and design hand-off as we bring SondeFlux to market.

Job Focus:

  • Design, simulate, prototype, V&V electronic Medical Devices.
  • Design the schematic and perform PCB Layout for a mixed-signal Embedded Medical Device.
  • Write test protocols and reports, including presenting data to other team members.
  • Write technical reports and specifications for products.
  • Code and validate the firmware for the embedded electronics in a Medical Device.
  • Follow regulatory standards and company standard operating procedures (SOPs) for device development.
  • Coordinate efforts between the company, consultants, and vendors.
  • And other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be able to design (simulate, schematic, board layout, test, debug) complete electrical systems and individual circuits.
  • Knowledge of embedded system design and incorporation of firmware.
  • Proficient in creating hardware architecture diagrams.
  • Proficient with electronic testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, DMM, function generators & power supplies.
  • Confident in managing stressful deadline situations and being fully responsible for solving problems.
  • Proficient with Altium.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Standards for Medical Devices (IEC 60601, ISO 14971, ISO 13485).
  • Knowledge of industry standards.
  • Familiar with design for manufacturing and quality assurance.
  • Experience in developing data acquisition devices (DAQs).
  • Experience in developing ultrasound-based devices.
  • Experience in developing digital signal processing (DSPs) devices.
  • Lift or move objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to travel.

Required Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four years of experience (3 years with a M.S.)  in electronic design, development, testing, debugging (analog, digital, mixed signal, power, RF and / or firmware design).
