The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals & Licensing (DIAL) is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, solution-oriented, and detailed individual to join our team as an Elevator/Amusement Ride Inspector within the Building and Construction Division.

To accomplish our Mission, the individual(s) selected for this position will perform technical work in the inspection of elevators, amusement rides, escalators, moving walks, lifts, dumbwaiters and related equipment to ensure compliance with state safety laws and regulations.
What You'll Do
Perform inspections of amusement rides and concessions, elevators, escalators, moving walks, wheelchair lifts, and related equipment to protect the public from hazards created by lack of compliance with state rules and codes, including American Society of Mechanical Engineers and other standards incorporated by reference in Iowa. Identifies hazards, prepares reports, invoices, and other documents as needed.
Conduct elevator and amusement ride accident investigations. Interview witnesses, operators, and maintenance personnel. Checks maintenance logs, reviews and investigates other factors in an attempt to determine the cause of the accident and prepare a written report.
Inspect plans, procedures, blueprints, equipment, and materials to be used in installation, repair or replacement, of elevators, escalators, moving walks, or lifts prior to construction to ensure proper installation.
Necessary Special Requirements
All appointees to this classification must successfully complete a QEI certification examination offered by the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities or similar organizations within twelve months of employee. Certification in National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities required. Certification in National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (NAARSO), Level 1 within one-year and Level 2 within five-years. Amusement ride certification may be waived to meet the business needs of the Division.
NOTE: Employees must be bondable. Extensive overnight travel is required. Employees must arrange transportation to and from assigned work areas.

6 months' experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the inspection, installation, and maintenance of elevators.Graduation from high school or G.E.D. and experience equal to four years' work as a journey level mechanic in construction, installation, repair, or inspection of elevators (passenger and/or freight), amusement rides, escalators, moving walks, lifts, and/or dumbwaiters;
OR
graduation from an accredited two-year junior college with an associate's degree in engineering or industrial technology and two years' experience in construction, installation, repair, or inspection of elevators (passenger and/or freight), amusement rides, escalators, moving walks, lifts, and/or dumbwaiters;
OR
graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering or, industrial technology and one year experience in Elevator/Amusement Ride safety;
OR
one year of experience performing the duties of an elevator/Ride Inspector in a jurisdiction with substantially equivalent safety inspection rules, regulations and experience requirements.
