Position Summary:
A teacher at Golden Hills Christian School is responsible for the daily instruction of his/her students, with the understanding that we are facilitating each student's growth academically, physically, and spiritually. He/she must support and implement the GHCC Theological Vision for Ministry. He/she is responsible for the overall implementation of the assigned school curriculum and for creating an optimal learning environment for his/her students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Be present in their classroom to greet students by 8:00 am.
- Be punctual for all duties, required staff meetings, and extracurricular functions.
- Respectfully cooperate with the principal and administration in implementing all policies and procedures.
- Follow the assigned scope and sequence for all classes.
- Submit copies of weekly lesson plans by 8:00 am to the Principal.
- Provide principal and administration with copies of all parent communications.
- Keep student records {attendance/grades) updated on FACTS weekly.
- Turn in all paperwork on time; progress reports, report cards, supply lists, curriculum orders, etc.
- Maintain proper discipline practices in the classroom, on school premises, and at school-sponsored activities.
- Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
- Follow all facility usage rules and requirements.
- Use a variety of instructional aides, methods, and materials to provide a creative learning environment.
- Plan appropriate educational activities and field trips to enhance the curriculum.
- Use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment, or project work.
- Be in constant communication with students, parents, and the principal regarding any academic or behavioral concerns with sufficient notice of failure.
- Be proficient in emergency procedures such as CPR, first aid, building evacuation, and emergency drills.
- Inform the administration promptly if unable to fulfill any duty assigned due to illness/injury.
- Contact a substitute teacher for prearranged absences (in the event of sudden illness, call administration, and a sub will be arranged for you).
- Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute and have an emergency substitute plan in the office.
- Be flexible in performing requested duties as updated or revised during the school year.
- Supervise assigned students at all times.
- Follow administration guidelines for staff dress code.
- Integrate Biblical worldview throughout curriculum lesson plans and activities.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree
- ACSI and/or CA State Teaching Credential (may be obtained during the first year of teaching)
- Experience in Christian education preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to create an optimal learning environment for students.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with GHCS families.
- Ability to develop and execute lesson plans in each subject assigned to teach.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work in a team environment and take direction from supervisors.
- Lead students in spiritual development.
- Be a Christ-like example to all students and families.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
- ACSI Elementary Teaching Credential (may be obtained during the first year of teaching).
- CA State Teaching Credential (preferred).
Spiritual Requirements:
- Shall maintain regular church attendance (GHCC member preferred).
- Maintain regular involvement in school and church activities and events.
- Signed acknowledgment to policies and procedures as stated in GHCS Staff Handbook.
- Expected to be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others.
- He/she will wholeheartedly agree with the GHCC Theological Vision for Ministry and the GHCS Statement of Faith.
- The teacher shall acknowledge their total dependency upon the Lord by spending time in God's Word and prayer through daily devotions.
- Ensure that the classroom work environment is Christ-centered, nurturing, wholesome, and loving.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for long periods.
- Ability to use fingers to grasp, assemble, or move objects.
- Ability to speak clearly and annunciate sounds for students.
- Ability to hear sounds and recognize differences between them.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Ability to bend down and stand up with ease.
- Ability to speak for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
