Overview:
The job of the Elementary Curriculum Specialist, with a focus on Math and High Ability, is to support BCSC staff in the area of Elementary Curriculum. This is a fast-paced, multi-project position working with all areas of curriculum (preferred strength in Math and High Ability).
- Partner with the District Elementary Curriculum team in establishing organizational goals and action plans.
- Support the achievement of Elementary Curriculum goals by providing direct support and professional development opportunities to teachers.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, focused on student success, that connects teachers across all elementary schools in Professional Learning Communities.
- Serve on various district guiding teams to identity and support goals and objectives of the district.
- Plan and provide professional development opportunities and events for both the district and individual schools.
- Develop expertise in curriculum adoptions and promote their effective use across the elementary schools.
- Develop expertise in existing and emerging technology platforms that accompany curriculum adoptions, supplement school resources, and connect schools with a global learning community.
- Promote and develop elementary teachers in using research-based instructional practices.
- Gain and share knowledge, tools, and resources to support learning that include: teaching strategies, assessment techniques, interpretation of assessment results, PBIS, and best practices that promote success.
- Collaborate with BCSC staff on the intentional implementation of UDL and cultural sustainability practices in all aspects of the Elementary Curriculum work.
- Collaborate with teachers to empower students to enhance the qualities of an expert learner, including: personal goal setting, data tracking, and monitoring and evaluating own learning.
- Evaluate and promote the effective use of technology tools and resources that promote communication and collaboration among students, teachers, and the community.
- Develop, maintain, and share a collection of print and digital resources that support teaching and learning.
- Manage the High Ability Grant including: budget planning; application submission; budget tracking for amendment and/or encumbrance; final report submission.
- Facilitate and schedule high ability testing: BCSC grades K, 3 & 6; BCSC retesting in grades 4-8; Non BCSC testing in grades 3-8.
- Coordinate high ability identification committees.
- Support high ability services and placement in cluster classrooms, AC, middle school teams, and high school class selection.
- Provide for development opportunities for teachers of high ability students.
- Meet with the High Ability Broad-Based Planning Committee quarterly in reference to the required IDOE high ability plans.
- Other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Elementary Education.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree preferred;
- Valid Indiana Teaching license;
- Specific knowledge of UDL and cultural sustainability and its application in classroom instruction and assessment;
- Understanding of a growth model grading system;
- Strong communication, collaboration, and technical skills.
