Description

We are seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Engineer experienced in PCBA production, test systems and quality support to join our 70+ person manufacturing team in Boothwyn, PA. In this role you will support the manufacture and quality validation of our own-branded consumer and professional environmental, meteorological and performance measurement instruments. Our products are used in applications that demand high reliability such as weather monitoring, sports performance, wildland firefighting, agriculture, long range shooting, solar power generation and more. Our primary products all include some combination of PCBs, microprocessors, digital & analog sensors, wireless modules, displays, UI interfaces, and batteries housed in sealed metal or plastic enclosures and we run two surface mount lines in-house. This position will monitor quality targets for each product line and assist in determining the root cause of failures; support the development, maintenance, and troubleshoot test systems; and support manufacturing staff as problems and opportunities arise. As a committed Lean Manufacturer, our goal is always to ship quality products while reducing waste to create capacity. This position will report directly to the Director of Manufacturing and may develop into a leadership role within the team.

Requirements

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • TEST PLANNING: Working with other stake holders, determine the goals for quality systems on each product line. Based on these goals, establish the appropriate methodologies for quality assurance.
  • IMPLEMENTATION: Support Design and development of test systems, both directly and using internal and external resources.
  • DFM/DFQ: Application of above during product development phase, working with design teams.
  • METRICS: Develop and maintain a system of tracking quality metrics through the manufacturing process, from raw materials to subassemblies to finished goods.
  • SMT SUPPORT: Provide support and oversight to the SMT manufacturing team running two full lines dedicated to producing required board assemblies to support daily production.
  • MANUFACTURING SUPPORT: Provide support as needed to manufacturing staff relating to quality issues. Respond to manufacturing Andons. Troubleshoot quality systems as needed to keep manufacturing running.
  • ROOT CAUSE DETERMINATION: Lead and assist manufacturing staff in determining and eliminating the root cause of recurring failures, which may include troubleshooting to the board/circuit level.
  • LEAN PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: Coordinate value stream mapping exercises to identify waste in the SMT production, test and programming lines. Coordinate improvement kaizens and continuous improvement projects.

Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic circuits, including microprocessors, analog & digital sensors, wireless modules, displays, UI interfaces.
  • Experience with various quality assurance methods, including Six Sigma, 100% inspection, and Taguchi method.
  • Ability to design, machine and contract out mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electrical CAD.
  • Ability to design, machine and contract out electro-mechanical test system components, including bed of nails test platform components.
  • Ability to design, breadboard and contract out PCB and PCBA components, including proficiency in PCB layout and design tools.
  • Proficiency with LabView.
  • Proficiency with common electrical engineering tools and meters.
  • Ability to program microcontrollers for PCB test systems.
  • Wiring/mechanical design/assembly for fixturing.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and improve electronics manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional training and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of manufacturing engineering experience in electromechanical assembly including experience with SMT manufacturing and high-volume production.
  • Quality assurance, quality engineering or test engineering experience.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not initially have direct supervisory responsibilities but will be expected to function as a project and technical lead for some projects, such as kaizens and new equipment installations. This position may develop into a leadership role in the future.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Climate-controlled manufacturing facility and offices. May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Dogs in office.

Hours of Work

Our production team works Monday to Thursday 6:30 to 5:00 and this position will be expected to work on-site the majority of those hours. However, there is some flexibility to perform project work from home and to substitute Friday or off hours if desired and/or convenient for completing test system work.

Training

Most training is on-the-job but formal education and training may be provided where appropriate.

Travel / Work Location

100% in NK's facilities in Boothwyn, PA. Occasional travel may be required for training, evaluation of capital test equipment, or working with consulting engineers.

Pay Rate

This is a salaried position. Pay rate commensurate with qualifications and experience as well as company size. Annual bonus based on company and individual performance ranges averages 3 to 5% of compensation.
