Who We Are:
The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $885 million and 2,162 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing and contracting, ISD is the County's trusted partner and provider of choice.
The Opportunity:
We are pursuing a qualified candidate to fill an Electronics Communications Equipment Installer position in the Interoperable Radio Systems Division. The position assists journey-level electronics technicians in the installation, removal, maintenance, repair and testing of electronic COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT.
Positions allocable to this class assist journey-level electronics technicians in the installation, removal, repair, maintenance, and testing of electronic COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT, including wire communications, digital communications, audio/visual systems, and fixed and mobile radio COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT. Incumbents must demonstrate skill in the use of hand and power tools, such as drill presses, power saws, soldering irons and wire crimpers in addition to exercising a knowledge of electronics equipment sufficient to install a wide variety of electronic COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT. These positions are required to bend, stoop, squat, and lift equipment of moderate weight on a routine and frequent basis.
Essential Job Functions
What You Will Do:
Operates hand and power tools in the installation and removal of electronic COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT, including: Carrier, signal and alarm court and jail security, and telephone equipment; Digital communication equipment including mini and micro computers, and supporting hardware; Electronic audio and visual systems including public address and closed circuit television systems; Fixed and mobile radio communications systems including mobile and hand carrier radio transmitters and receivers, base and remote station transmitters, and microwave equipment.
Fabricates chassis, control panels, cabinets, brackets, and mounting devices by using punch and drill presses, sheet metal benders and shears, grinders, and power saws.
Assists electronics technicians in the maintenance, repair, and testing of ELECTRONICS COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT.
Demonstrates and explains to users the basic operation of equipment installed, such as mobile radio or audio equipment.
Keeps records of time and material used in performing duties.
Keeps stock and work areas clean and orderly.
Assists in training new employees.
Operates automotive and/or forklift equipment.
Requirements
Requirements to Qualify:
One year of experience in the installation and removal of land mobile radio electronic or electrical equipment.
License:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Expectations:
3 - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10 - 25 pounds.
Vision:
Color perception must be normal other than for a minor hue impairment (mild as recorded on AO H-R-R Pseudoisochromatic or similar plates). Applicants who show other than normal or minor hue impairment may be tested, at the discretion of the Director of Personnel, with sample color-coded electric wires.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in the installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of mobile radios, light-bars, sirens, vehicle intercoms, vehicle laptops, base stations, control consoles, paramedic radios, and PA mobile systems or related communication systems and equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Radio Frequency Propagation.
  • Possession of a Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Certificate.
