    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
  • Located in north Seattle, Heart Institute at UW Medical Center – Northwest provides a wide range of cardiac services, including early prevention, risk assessment and acute and chronic disease management.
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Sets up exam area, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready
  • Prepares and informs patients of exam procedure, observes and monitors patient’s condition and reactions to exam
  • Independently performs assigned EKG exams in accordance with established protocols and standards, demonstrates ability to perform the entire variety of technical procedures
  • Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies, and investigates and informs supervisor of any quality issues or problems
  • Operates equipment according to departmental procedures, adjusts equipment parameters to obtain high-quality recordings, and calibrates and inspects/evaluates equipment for proper functioning
  • Interprets EKG data; edits, types and charts reports, inputs exam orders, patient data, and patient charges
  • Continually evaluates patient flow and work assignments, makes necessary adjustments, and prioritizes work effectively.
  • Answers phones and assists with clerical and support activities such as typing, data entry, filing, microfilming, registration, scheduling, etc
  • Assists with training new personnel, prepares and presents in-service education programs if assigned
    REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School education or GED equivalent
  • Training and experience in performing EKGs gained through working as a Resident EKG Technician at UWMC OR previous experience in recording electrocardiograms in a hospital setting for a minimum of six months
