The Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking an electro-optical Sensor Systems Engineer to work on sensor designs for space flight programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optical engineering, visible and infrared imaging sensors, sensor system testing, and programming. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of spaceflight electro-optical Sensor Systems including the design, development, testing, and operation of visible and infrared imaging Sensor Systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in a related technical field (e.g., electro-optical Systems Engineering, optical science, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or physics)
  • Electro-optical sensor design and/or data analysis experience
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Technical aptitude and/or experience with data analysis and understanding of physical measurements
  • Experience with programming in Python, and/or MATLAB
  • Ability to effectively work both individually and within a team environment
  • Understanding of optical principles and optical systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to travel
  • Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain a US government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD degree in a related technical field (e.g., electro-optical Systems Engineering, optical science, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or physics) 
  • Experience with electro-optical sensor design, systems requirements, and subsystems
  • Experience with visible and infrared detectors (CCD, CMOS, microbolometer, InSb, HgCdTe, etc.)
  • Ability to perform radiometric/photometric modeling of electro-optical Sensor Systems in both the visible and the infrared spectrum
  • Interdisciplinary familiarity of systems including optical, electro-optical, electrical, software, and mechanical disciplines
  • Experience with spaceflight instrument/sensor development and testing
