Job Summary

This job posting will be used to fill one current at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. The position will typically work day shift and every fourth weekend. Weekend shift times may vary, such as 6:00am - 2:30pm.
The incumbent of this position will maintain all systems and/or mechanisms relating to boilers, heating, ventilation, domestic hot water, kitchen equipment, nursing equipment, office equipment and patient use equipment at Minnesota Veterans Home-Fergus Falls in proper operating condition to insure maximum comfort and efficiency of operation for the users of this facility. In addition, keep other equipment at Minnesota Veterans Home-Fergus Falls in a safe and efficient working condition.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current licensure in Minnesota as a Journeyman or Master Electrician
  • Ability to attain licensure in Minnesota as a 2nd Class C boiler operator within the probationary period. (NOTE: an applicant may be considered for a provisional appointment if currently licensed in Minnesota as an electrician but require more than 6 months of additional experience to be able to attain a 2nd Class C boiler operator licensure in Minnesota,)
  • Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner
  • Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to perform the job duties safely and efficiently

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing semiskilled trades work

Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of the following:
  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position(s). When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
