Job Summary:

We are looking for an electrical engineer who is ready to put all their Electrical System Design prowess to work!  You will report to an Engineering Manager that has a complete vision for the role. The vision includes helping you obtain deep knowledge and hands on experience with generator sets and how they interface with electrical power systems.

You will have the opportunity to lead and participate in the design, development, and troubleshooting of electrical control system packaging, associated circuitry, and wire harnessing for our gas and diesel-powered generator sets.  You will work primarily on generator set designs in Electric Power, Oil & Gas, and Marine applications covering a size range of 300kW to 6000kW, and will have the opportunity to work with generator set controllers, voltage regulators, I/O and temperature monitoring modules, shore power circuitry, engine interconnect wiring, voltage sensing wiring, and electrical enclosures.  Imagine being mentored by more senior engineers and other functional group engineers that have a vested interest in your understanding and achievements towards becoming an expert in generator control system components! Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a factory support engineer to the Lafayette factory to support production issues related to genset control system packaging by evaluating, diagnosing, and resolving manufacturing challenges.  This involves using technical expertise and product knowledge to resolve issues by interfacing with engineers, service representatives, plant personnel, and suppliers.
  • Participate in and lead the product development and project management activities for assigned control system projects.
  • Manage detailed project and validation plans, including maintaining responsibility for project scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to define and meet product requirements, with the goal of designing the best solution to meet marketing, customer, product and project objectives
  • Participate in and lead product cost reduction efforts
  • Participate in and lead activities related to selection of new materials and development efforts to provide state-of-the-art technological advantages
  • Provide guidance to other engineers as required to ensure development schedules are met

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering Technology + 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated initiative and sense of urgency relative to customer requirements and creative problem solving across organizational boundaries
  • High level of oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to maintain utmost discretion and manage confidential and privileged information
  • Ability to work with other team members to research and analyze customer specifications to create design proposals to meet performance, customer and manufacturing requirements.

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Experience in NPI (New Product Introduction), CPI (Current Product Improvement), Product maintenance, or Cost Reduction design and development.
  • Experience in electrical design and ability to interpret engineering drawings - sound technical background and a good knowledge of current engineering drawing practice.
  • Strong leadership ability and good communications skills
  • Master’s degree in engineering, or equivalent experience
  • High level of proficiency in Creo Parametric or other modeling or simulation tools
  • Experience working with power generation and/or power distribution systems
  • Controls system integration design experience
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience working in a global dispersed team environment
