Job Title: Electrical Embedded Engineering Intern
Job Description: Reporting to the Director of Engineering but working under the direction of the electrical engineering team, you will support our R+D and flight programs by developing and maintaining embedded firmware for motor control and solar power applications. In addition to firmware, you will have the opportunity to learn embedded hardware design including schematic capture in Altium, PCB layout, block diagrams, part selection, manufacturing, test, and qualification of our motor control and solar power embedded systems.
Job Duties:

  • Work directly with our EE technical lead to design, program, build and test motor control embedded systems based on system level requirements.
  • Opportunities for growth in both software and hardware design. Responsibilities are 70/30 software/hardware
  • Support existing embedded firmware on our products and develop new firmware for future designs.
  • Embedded C code for ARM cortex devices
  • Write functions to communicate with ADC, DAC and FRAM components.
  • Develop PID, and perturb and observe algorithms.
  • Manage code repositories in GIT
  • Automate functional testing and design verification using Python
  • Use Altium Designer to create custom printed circuit boards
  • Modify schematics as needed for new systems integration.
  • Revise existing products with new features.
  • Identify suitable replacements for unavailable/obsolete parts.
  • Layout and route PCBs using Altium.
  • Generate engineering documentation including schematics and PCB Gerber files.
  • Assist with system architecture design for new products to conform with engineering design intent and performance specifications.
  • Manage BOMs using approved Product Lifecycle Management tools.
  • Coordinate with system design, development, integration and test teams to plan and complete assigned projects on schedule.
  • Participate in system design reviews and recommend improvements.
  • Confer with other project teams to define assembly, testing and operating procedures.

Skills and Requirements:
  • BS or MS degree in process for Electrical Engineering or ECE. CS major or minor will be considered if the candidate has interest/experience with embedded hardware.
  • Familiar with software development for embedded applications with microcontrollers in C/C++.
  • Python programming.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generators.
  • Familiarity with electronics Design Automation (EDA) tools such as Altium.
  • Understanding of PCB layout and best design practices.
  • Experience with electronics simulation tools such as LTSPICE.
  • Familiarity with space-industry standards for electronics, design factors of safety, and product verification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Git or SVN
  • Familiarity with FPGA and Verilog/VHDL super nice to have!
  • Effective written and verbal communication including technical writing and oral presentations.
