As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be a critical part of the entire project lifecycle from initial scoping through design and field installation, support, and validation.
As a Design Engineer you will work closely with the project engineering team and customers to learn about existing gas turbine power plants and develop solutions that bring significant value to the customers and the business via customer upgrade projects or new unit introductions.  In this role, you will work on design, development and provides support to the global fleet for accessory systems and related Balance of Plant equipment to improve upon reliability, performance, emission, efficiency and safety. Projects vary from small electrical system upgrades to repowering entire gas turbine generator set with latest proven technology. In this role you will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure integration of the new gas turbine electrical systems in the existing Power Plant
  • Serve as team member of the applications engineering team and/or the project execution team for complex gas turbine or combined cycle upgrade projects
  • Ensure all drawings and bill of material structures are matching contract requirements in relation to the electrical systems scope of work.
  • Solve difficult technical challenges
  • Coordinate with interfacing organizations such as manufacturing, sourcing, services, global engineering, advanced technologies and systems engineering
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
  • Document design work clearly and meticulously
  • Provide timely and accurate responses to support resolution of field installation and customer issues
  • Assume responsibility for process and safety engineering within the project team for customer upgrades and new unit introductions

Required Skills (Technical Competency):

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Experience or equivalent education in electrical, electronics, or Controls applications.
  • Familiarity with main electrical equipment including generator breakers, excitation system, starting system, transformers and power plant relay and protection schemes
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Knowledge of applicable national and international codes / Standards / directives such as IEC, NEC, CSA, IECEx, ATEX etc.

  • Ability and willingness to learn 
  • Ability to remain calm in high pressure situations
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Mostly Office Environments, Occasional Shop Floor involvement.
  • Substantial amounts of telephone and computer work.
  • Heavily Regulated Industries with strict adherence to procedures.
  • Flexibility to meet business deadlines by staying late or arriving early.
  • Typical 8 hour days plus lunch / 40 hour weeks / core (required) hours are 9AM to 4PM
  • Ability to use personal transportation to visit customer locations.
