Job Description
Based at our Lorton, VA facility, and reporting to the E&I Supervisor, Covanta Fairfax is looking for a dedicated Electrical and Instrumentation Technician. Duties include but are not limited to; troubleshooting, cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and maintaining electrical, instrumentation, and distributive control (DCS) equipment throughout the facility safely and professionally. This individual will have a strong electrical background, including experience in instrument calibration, PLC, and DCS programming/troubleshooting.
To be considered for this position the individual must have:
  • At least five years of experience as a Maintenance Electrician/ Instrumentation in a power plant or a similar field; or 2-3 years experience and technical degree
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical systems
  • Proficient with Ladder Logic and or Function Block for PLCs (Allen-Bradley SLC-500 and Control Logix)
  • Knowledgeable of Bailey Infi / NET90 DCS
  • Ability to Interpret and navigate P&ID's and schematics
  • Strong Troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience repairing Crane electrical controls, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) is a plus

Physical Demands:
  • Frequently exposed to high temperatures and outside weather conditions
  • Working in a noisy and dusty environment
  • Frequently required to stand, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach
  • Climbing ladders and structures; must be able to tolerate heights

Licenses and Education:
Must have a High School diploma/GED.
Additional formal technical training or Military Electrical technical training is preferred
Schedule:
During training (4-8 weeks) schedule will be Monday- Friday 6:00 am -2:30pm
After the training period this position will be an 8 or 10-hour day shift position. There is a rotating on call schedule and additional hours are scheduled during planned or unplanned outages; possibility of night support may be needed during this time.. This schedule is subject to change based on business needs.
