Job Title: Intern Operations
Job Code: INT008
The 12-week NiSource Internship program starting May 22nd, is a multi-faceted development experience that provides our interns with challenging and meaningful work that impacts the communities we serve. As a NiSource intern, you will have the opportunity to learn from senior leadership and build professional relationships with employees across our company. The NiSource Internship program also incorporates workshops to learn about NiSource, the energy industry and infuses learning and development opportunities that sharpen your professional skills. The robust program will aid in building the fundamentals needed to enter the energy workforce upon graduation.
Summary
Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the operations work plan in support of Power Delivery. Assist in data collection and reports to monitor programs, work plans, operating budgets, and forecasts in support of Power Delivery.
Successful candidate must be capable of working virtually, in the office as well as a hybrid model of both scenarios. This role is a year-round internship beginning Summer 202
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with planning leaders, scheduling, operations, engineering, procurement, transmission planning, distribution planning, and material handling to anticipate requirements necessary to meet customer expectations and the business plan.
  • Assist in the management of operational plans through data collection and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual and monthly Operation Plan and the translation of the operations plans into operating budgets.
  • Assist with budget variance reporting, risk analysis, issue tracking, and resolution status.
  • Assist in the engineering review of construction projects prior to execution.
  • Assist in the development of project execution schedules.
  • Design reports covering historical performance and forecasted requirements.
  • Organize work packets for upcoming projects prior to scheduled start for field workers.
  • Update weekly crew in field reports and associated schedules.

Required Qualifications for Position
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university with a major in business, construction, accounting or engineering discipline. If enrolled with a major in an engineering discipline, must come from an ABET accredited program with a focus in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Ability to work 40 hrs/week in the summer and 10-20 hrs/week during the school year.
  • Has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Have completed general education courses.
  • Perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner while adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Computer proficiency in Excel
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn and remain flexible in various work assignments.
  • Work effectively in an individual and team environment.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, have a safe driving record, and reliable transportation throughout the employment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship

Preferred for Selection:
  • Prior knowledge of the public utility industry.
  • Strong project management skills and experience.
  • Proficiency Microsoft Access
