SUMMARY:
The EKG Technician works under general supervision to assist the Imaging Department in performing EKGs for patients; will operate electrocardiograph equipment to record the electromotive variations in heart muscle actions; assist in the coding, filing, and distribution of EKG data; and works effectively with patients and other clinic personnel.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Prepare patient and documentation for electrocardiogram by explaining testing procedures, answering patient questions
- Obtain patient orders and any relevant documentation for study and review to ensure all signatures and information are complete
- Ensure physician needs are met to increase resources utilization
- Perform diagnostic test by entering patient information into electrocardiograph including history number and patient's history and by fastening/removing electrodes to specific areas of arms, legs, and chest
- Review electrocardiogram for technical acceptability and rate. Contact ordering provider if EKG shows alert values
- Check and balance all Imaging outstanding EKG orders are complete. Maximize volume and appointment efficiency through work-ins and communicating availability in schedule
- Prepare and maintain the exam room, supplies, and equipment by cleaning and maintaining equipment, including tables, all knobs, chairs, stools, sink and counters; change linens and disinfect as needed; refill soaps; ensure exam rooms are clean and ready for each patient
- Keep up-to-date on state regulations for safety and equipment, including an up-to-date state regulation policy manual
- Maintain inventory control and ordering system for EKG supplies
- Perform administrative duties as directed by answering phone and questions efficiently; taking messages and follow through when patients are finished
- Assist in training personnel
- Maximize scheduling through Performance Improvement Planning monthly with manager
- Keep daily record of all patient studies, including date, PSC number, exam, requesting physician
- Timeliness of Charge Entry
- Measurement of Charge Accuracy based on denials and edits
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience
- EKG Certificate from college or technical school
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- 1-2 years EKG experience preferred
- High energy level
