Background

  • Works under general direction of Environmental, Heath, and Safety Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring all production plant personnel are following and are trained in job-specific safety requirements and environmental regulations. Safety requirements will include, but are not limited to: Chemical Hazards, PPE, Forklifts, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, and related safety procedures, including adherence to production procedures and SOPs.

Tasks

  • Working closely with Production plant personnel to review information about their equipment, safe operation and use of equipment and tools, and adherence to batch record procedures.
  • Providing a safety presence on the plant floor.
  • Designing and implementing solutions to enable production employees to perform their various tasks safely.
  • Performing PPE Hazard Assessments and Job Safety Analyses for Production tasks.
  • Identifying machines and equipment subject to LOTO procedures, identifying all energy sources for the equipment, and assisting with updating process diagrams, including P&IDs.
  • Assisting in incident investigations and emergency response.
  • Providing on-going training and guidance on Chemical Hazards, PPE, Forklifts, LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, and related safety programs for facility personnel at operator toolbox talks and other training sessions.
  • Conducting production personnel training for recognition of new hazards, such as new or modified machinery, equipment, or processes.
  • Training new employees at new hire orientation when needed and current employee training for new job duties and responsibilities.

Specifications

  • A.S. degree or above in Science, Environmental management, Engineering, Occupational Safety or Health (or a related field). Work related experience in a Chemical manufacturing environment shall also be considered in lieu of degree.
  • At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories and practices used in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Previous chemical process training experience preferred.

  • Chemical process knowledge/aptitude
  • Training needs assessment, design, delivery, and evaluation
  • Office Methods and procedures
  • MS Office software package

  • Working effectively in a team environment, including in-depth collaboration between production
  • Working effectively and efficiently on multiple projects at once
  • Responding to rapidly changing demands
  • Good communication, writing, and analytical thinking skills

Ability to:

  • Provide leadership in delivering effective and efficient EHS services.
  • Manage projects and coordinate them with other organizational units.
  • Train and influence others in EHS related activities.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, within all levels of the organization.
  • Assess risk and develop appropriate mitigation approaches.
  • Exercise judgement while being insightful, logical, and methodical.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of small groups for training.
