Ehs Specialist, Plastics & Paint Plastics

Tesla is seeking an ambitious Sr. EHS Specialist to support Plastics and Paint manufacturing operations at our Facility in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will partner with a cross-functional team to develop, implement and continuously improve programs within Tesla’s comprehensive EHS Management System. The EHS Specialist is responsible for complex technical work across a range of EHS disciplines. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal and industry standards.

This role offers the opportunity for advancement in technical roles. The EHS Specialist will be expected to apply human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, event learning, and systems-level problem solving.

Level of role will be determined based on experience 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Ergonomics, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety-related discipline Certifications (OHST, ASP) or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience as an Environmental, Health or Safety professional, preferably in a Manufacturing, Plastics, Paints and coatings, Pharmaceuticals, heavy chemical or similar workplace
• Experience leading EHS program development, training all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change through Management of Change (MOC) process
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
• Preferred: Experience in evaluating hazardous atmospheres, vapor exposures and sampling for hazardous compounds
• Preferred: Hazardous Material Area Classifications, working with various stakeholders to impart the importance of segregation of incompatible hazardous materials, advising on storage requirements, and electrical area classifications
• Preference for candidates with experience in Process Safety Management, International Building and Fire Code compliance, and life safety monitoring systems
