Position Summary:

The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting and maintaining the environmental, health, and safety programs under the direction of the EHS Manager. This position will work closely with operations, maintenance, and other stakeholders to minimize health and safety risks to employees, ensure compliance with all environmental regulations, and implement corporate EHS initiatives.

  • Comply with PCC Code of Conduct Requirements and all PCC Cardinal Rules (e.g. Quality and Safety).
  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
  • Support the development and implementation of EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and PCC corporate/division initiatives.
  • Lead internal investigations following work-related accidents and injuries to determine root cause/contributing factors and implement robust corrective actions to prevent future occurrence.
  • Assist with development, implementation and maintenance of Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis for all site operations and procedures
  • Support policies, programs, and projects to address workplace hazards and environmental issues.
  • Participate in EHS audits, including safety, air, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous waste, to verify that programs meet or exceed requirements.
  • Evaluate facilities pursuant to safety and environmental conditions. Identity areas of concern and advise management regarding interpretation of requirements and actionable recommendations.
  • Lead improvement projects to optimize the workplace as it related to environmental, health and safety.
  • Support in the generation and submission of safety and environmental reports, including TRI Form R, HMBP, Annual AQMD Reporting, Annual SWPPP Reporting, DOT Waste Manifesting, OSHA 300 Logs, etc., as required.
  • Maintain all records, training, and documents pertaining to OSHA, EPA, and PCC regulations.
  • Coordinate inspections by regulatory agencies and ensure resulting findings are corrected.
  • Manage data for Dickson Testing in Gensuite EHS management software.
  • Maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems (Weekly safety pack, Gensuite, MORs etc.).
  • Provide classroom instruction to equipment operators through lectures and demonstrations on topics such as but not limited to forklift, new hire orientations, LOTO, etc.
  • Conducting appropriate inspections and audits, and ensure corrective actions are monitored and documented.
  • Assisting with completing and documenting all regulatory compliance activities through the EHS Calendar according to regulatory deadlines.
  • Responding to and investigating events including injuries and near-miss events. Drive closure of effective corrective / preventive actions, as assigned.
  • Conducting standard/routine environmental compliance audits/inspections for applicable on-site programs. (Hazardous waste inspections, AQMD inspections, and applicable water inspections (storm water and wastewater) etc.
  • Preparing environmental compliance reports and ensuring permit conditions are followed.
  • Updating Key Performance Indicators (KPI) (Leading and Lagging Indicators).
  • Support the facility with 6S initiatives as required.
  • Participating in company committees outside of EHS responsibilities that promote Continuous Improvement.
  • May need to operate powered industrial equipment, unload materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles and stacking them in assigned places; locate and move stock of products to pallets or crates for storage or shipment.

The EHS Specialist will lead by example and seeks out opportunities and techniques to further this goal. The EHS Specialist uses persuasion to gain the support and cooperation from stakeholders, superiors, colleagues, subordinates, and other parties to achieve a desired course of action consistent with the organization's strategic goals and objectives.
  • EHS Scientific and Technical Expertise: The EHS Specialist actively seeks out and improves environment, health & safety, and regulatory knowledge. The EHS Specialist works with superiors and managers to analyze and prioritize critical problems accurately and quickly; and is highly collaborative. The EHS Specialist works with superiors to analyze data, recognize meaningful test results, interpret results, and present the results in an appropriate way to different types of audiences.
  • Time Management: The EHS Specialist needs to use time to their advantage, needs to be able to manage a variety of given tasks, avoid procrastination, prioritize tasks in line with regulatory, department, company deadlines and goals. This includes day-to-day tasks, multi-phase projects, investigations, along with internal and external customer requests.
  • Communication: Effective communication is a critical skill for the EHS Specialist in order to communicate applicable Safety and Health regulatory requirements and company policies, procedures, work instructions, and much more. A common form of communication comes in the form of training. Ability to deliver internal safety training and effectively as determined by the results of post training quizzes. Communication on EHS topics is of the highest caliber; clear and accurate.
  • Task Oriented: The EHS Specialist is a task driven position. This means the position is dedicated to fulfilling the tasks provided by the Compliance/EHS Department. For example: Timely completion of tasks that align with the facility goals; implements reliable, effective metrics to measure outcomes; models' accountability; thinks of innovative ways to spread awareness of Company and EHS Policies and best practices.
