Maintains environmental, health and safety programs across the site. Assists management team with supervising environmental compliance and safety metrics (i.e. chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention). Conducts compliance training, audits and inspects sites or lab environments to ensure compliance with global occupational safety and health standards. Recommends corrective action where hazard or risk exist.

Essential Functions and Other Job Information: 

• Assist in planning, execution, monitoring and continuous improvement of environmental, health and safety programs to meet local regulations and corporate requirements.

• Conducts regular inspections and yearly self-assessments of assigned facilities and labs, and conducts employee health hazard exposure supervising to ensure OSHA compliance and internal standards.

• Conduct/Coordinate training in emergency response situations, biosafety, hazardous materials handling/storage/disposal, industrial hygiene, life safety, and ergonomic compliance-related activities etc.. Develops and implements training for various health and safety topics as required by the regulations.

• Ensures that all licensing, permitting, or other environmental, health or safety requirements are met at assigned site and takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved.

• Maintains up to date knowledge and ensures that procedures meet federal, state, and local requirements (i.e. OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.) Develops and updates all health and safety related mandated procedures for assigned facilities, including warehouse safety and powered industrial trucks.

• Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner. Pro-actively makes recommendations on feasible solutions and alternatives for compliance.

• Ensures safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility on a regular basis. Maintains and monitors waste manifest system. Completes reporting forms and documents for all required regulatory agencies.

•Coordinates all ergonomic related issues. Makes recommendations as appropriate.

• Collaborates with corporate Worker’s Compensation Administrator to supply information on related claims to insurance company. Assists with or conducts work-related injury/illness investigation.

• May lead Health & Safety committees, act as Biological Safety Officer, maintain controlled substance program, evaluate/maintain all safety equipment, coordinate fire drills and/or work with assigned site on CAP inspections or other audit related inspections (OSHA).

• Maintains safety equipment inventory, performs periodic safety inspections, supervises hazardous waste removal vendors, and may assist in consolidating hazardous wastes.

Supervision Received

Interacts with internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between functional areas. Networks with senior personnel in own area of expertise. Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification

• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 3-5 years).

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be required for an individual to meet the demands of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, ICAO, ANSI, NFPA and DOH and other applicable regulations

• CSP, ASP, CHMM, or IH certificate preferred; experience can offset certification

• Firm knowledge of worker's compensation requirements, laboratory and hazardous waste regulations to include hazardous chemical/biohazard storage and disposal regulations

• Confirmed understanding of air monitoring strategies

• Strong presentation skills and including giving effective training

• Proven problem-solving skills

• Excellent judgment and business insight

• Strong digital literacy

• Ability to communicate so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented written &/or verbal.

• Frequently interacts with others to acquire or relate information to diverse groups.

• Works independently with little mentorship or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Requires multiple periods of driven concentration.

• Performs a range of variable tasks as decided by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
