Egegik Radio Room Assistant

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist fleet manager with fishing and tendering operations in Egegik
• Communicate with tenders to take catch reports, and direct delivery schedule
• Assist in compiling and sending in daily catch reports for ADF&G
• Engage with fishermen and tendermen and provide them with all necessary services
• Help communicate fishery and company information to fishermen and tendermen through all available means (radio, in person, email/text)
• Distribute and track tendering gear (scales, fish ticket laptops, etc.)
• Assist in the tracking and movement of fishermen gear (nets, etc.)
• Manage fishermen and tender parts ordering, ensuring correct parts are ordered and delivered to the correct location in a timely fashion.
• Help train tendermen in fish ticket procedures and temperature recording
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to learn the basics of tendering operations, vessel travel times, tides, weather, and other factors that dictate Bristol Bay operations
• Ability to learn and use various forms of marine communications
• Competence with Excel, Word and Office365 apps
• Excellent ability to communicate (verbal and written) clearly and concisely
• Superior attention to detail and organization skills
• Must be willing to work day and night, perform multiple tasks, with minimal supervision
• Ability to remain calm, cheerful, and good natured through stressful situations
• High sense of urgency in completing tasks and understanding that all tasks must be completed in a timely matter

COMPENSATION:

• Hourly rate (DOE) depends on experience, and eligible for overtime pay. In Alaska, overtime is one and one-half times the regular hourly rate, paid for hours worked over 8 per day and after 40 per week.
• Transportation, Room and Board Included.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

• This position is primarily based at a processing facility in the village of Egegik, Alaska in Bristol Bay
• Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise
• Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards
• Position requires the ability to stand, sit at a desk, walking around office and plant, lifting, and carrying packages, boxes, equipment, standing, sitting at a desk, walking around the office and planting and nets up to 50 pounds, utilizing fine dexterity. Requires reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting to inspect equipment. Also requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette
• Personal protective equipment, as defined by OBI Seafoods, will be provided
