Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The EEG/EMG Technologist performs standard and complicated electroencephalogram (EEG) tracings and EEG recordings. The EEG Technologist transports equipment, positions patients, attaches electrodes and provides appropriate instructions and explanations to patients and their families. Performs electromyography (EMG) procedures which include monitoring test for nerve/muscle response, in addition to detecting/eliminating from consideration all artifacts.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values
• Performs standard and complicated electroencephalogram (EEG) tracings with minimum supervision
• Performs standard EEG recordings (awake, sleep, hyperventilation of photic stimulation, nasopharyngeal, etc)
• Transports EEG equipment to perform tracings on immobile patients
• Positions patients, attaches electrodes, and provides appropriate instructions to patients
• Analyzes patients' medical records to obtain pertinent information/history, which could have a bearing on procedure (e.g. signs of head injury, epilepsy)
• Ensures electrical safety of patients at all times
• Explains the recording procedures to the patient and any family members present
• Ability to obtain reports from electronic medical record system, EPIC
• Cleans equipment, makes minor repairs/adjustments, maintains necessary supplies, and orders/stock supplies as needed
• Daily charge capture
• Participates in in-service education and EEG conferences
• Assists with scheduling appointments from referrals or direct requests
• Assists with Botox injection procedures
• Performs electromyography (EMG) procedures which include monitoring test for nerve/muscle response, in addition to detecting/eliminating from consideration all artifacts
• Records reactions for study by physician, altering recording procedure if necessary to amplify specific abnormalities and facilitate interpretation by physician
• Participates in training activities, when warranted
• Calibrate and adjust equipment and the beginning of each shift to ensure equipment is working properly
• Write, document, and submit reports on each patients' response to procedure(s) and test(s), and ensure all information and outcomes are confidentially stored
• Arranges for the maintenance and repair of equipment
Job Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Successful completion of an accredited educational program for EEG Technologists
• Registration as a R. EEG T. (Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologist (ABREEGT)
• One year of job-related experience
