Job description

  • Job Summary/Objective: The Reading Science Center is a hands-on science museum for children. Our mission is to foster a love of Science through exciting and experiential STEM education for youth in the Greater Reading community.

This is a part time position reporting to the Director of Educational Programming, available to work up to 30 hours per week. The Educator/Docent will deliver high-quality, hands-on, inquiry-based STEM education for The Reading Science Center. This position will ensure a safe and nurturing educational environment for the youth in Berks County as they participate in programming such as on-site field trips, after-school programming, special events and during days we are open to the public.

Essential Functions/Duties: Under the direction of the Director of Educational Programming, the essential functions are the following:

● Deliver hands-on, inquiry-based science education to patrons through classroom programs designed by the Director of Educational Programming including (but not limited to)

  • Tuesday/Saturday’s open hours
  • After school programming
  • Field Trips
  • Birthday Parties

Guide visitors through their space in our museum setting using inquiry and encouragement to maximize learning and fun.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an educational environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
  • Pass PA State Police, Childline Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint background checks and clearances.
  • At least 1 year of teaching experience.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
