Overview:
This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing teacher education programs, such as online resources, professional development workshops, the teacher advisory council, and teacher events.

- Designs, develops, and assesses teacher education programs, such as online resources, professional development workshops, and teacher events.
- Creates and oversees teacher advisory council.
- Creates partnerships with schools and community organizations to ensure access to inclusive and equitable programming for Central Ohio youth.
- Serves as a liaison between Central Ohio schools and the Columbus Zoo.
- Represents the Zoo at community conservation education events. This will require working occasional weekends and evenings.
- Collaborates with the Curriculum team to align programs and activities to the spiraling curriculum and ensure programs are developmentally appropriate and inclusive of all learners.
- Ensures programs and activities align with the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks Interpretive Strategy.
- Maintains confidential records related to program participants.
- Evaluates programs and implements changes accordingly.
- Works as a team member in the Conservation Education and Engagement Department, assisting other areas as needed.
- Performs general clerical duties including but not limited to answering phone calls, maintaining general correspondence, filing, copying, and faxing.
- Consistently strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
- Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required. Master’s degree in education or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years’ related experience required.
- Experience developing standards-based education programming required.
- Classroom experience in a formal education setting (K-12) preferred.
- Experience and comfort with online and/or adult learning preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion into program development is required.
- Experience working with diverse learners, for example, special education, multi-lingual learners, etc., preferred.
- Passion for inspiring people to take conservation action is required.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with both internal and external partners is required.
- Competent in planning and implementing multiple concurrent projects and events without direct supervision required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make It Great standards required.
- Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures, including but not limited to required safety protocols.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs required.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including the required evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proof of negative TB screening before placement and annually after that is required.
- Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicles operator’s license and a good driving record required.
- Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks drug-free workplace policy, including, but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
