Position Length: 9 Month
Educational Interpreter I, Grade 110, hourly rate starting at $17.75 and up depending on experience
Educational Interpreter II, Grade 112, hourly rate starting at $18.97 and up depending on experience
Educational Interpreter III, Grade 114, hourly rate starting at $20.33 and up depending on experience
Educational Interpreter IV, Grade 118, hourly rate starting at $23.54 and up depending on experience
Educational Interpreter V, Grade 120, hourly rate starting at $25.42 and up depending on experience
Educational Interpreter VI, Grade 121, hourly rate starting at $26.43 and up depending on experience

JOB DESCRIPTION
Gilbert Unified School District
Purpose Statement
Provides interpreting, transliterating, and/or other support service to Deaf/ Hard-of-Hearing students. When not providing supports to Deaf/ Hard-of Hearing students, may perform educationally or professionally related duties. Essential Functions
  • Provide interpreting and/or transliterating to allow the Deaf/ Hard-of-Hearing student equal access to direct instruction.
  • Provide interpreting and/or transliterating to allow the Deaf/ Hard-of-Hearing student equal access to incidental learning situations.
  • Provide adequate support (i.e. interpreting, previewing materials, and meeting with teachers) to the Deaf/ Hard-of-Hearing student to facilitate learning of classroom skills and IEP objectives.
  • Provide support/interpreting during group and individual instruction, informal social interactions, audio-visual presentations, assemblies, field trips and/or any extracurricular activity.
  • Participate in educational team meetings and in the review/revision of the Deaf/ Hard-of-Hearing student's IEP.
  • Confer with special and general education staff regarding student progress, language needs and interpreting needs.
  • Other duties as determined with supervisor.
Other Functions
  • Assists other personnel as may be required f or the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: Knowledge and adherence to interpreting ethics and RID CPC's required.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions. Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the Organization's services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience
Experience interpreting for Deaf and/or Hard-of Hearing individuals required.
Experience working in K-12 and Special Education settings preferred.
