Sheppard Pratt School in Lanham is a nonpublic special education day school providing educational, therapeutic, and daily living services to students ages 5 to 21 with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, and other health impairments.

What can you expect?
This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a collaborative learning environment that supports the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of the students in our care. This role offers rich, entry level, experience in special education if your goals include careers like special education teacher, registered behavior technician (RBT) or board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA).
Specific responsibilities include:
- Supporting the teacher as a paraprofessional educator and working with assigned student as a 1:1 dedicated aide.
- Supporting Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives by documenting student progress and providing additional instruction and structure.
- Providing behavior management and educational support.
- Opportunities for leading classroom activities.
The school operates on a year-round schedule, with ample breaks built in including:
- Major Federal holidays
- Spring break – 1 week
- Two summer breaks – 3 weeks total
- Winter holiday – 1 week

What we need from you
- High school diploma.
- Physical preparedness to effectively manage and physically restrain aggressive students.
- Comfortability working with individuals with autism who are low functioning and/or non-verbal and have behavioral and academic issues.
