Job description

Under the direction of the Education Research and Evaluation Administrator I of the Office of Research Requests and Partnerships (ORRP) the Education Research and Evaluation Assistant will provide support to the ORRP, the Division, and the Department on accountability and research. The ORRP is one of six units in the AMARD, a division within the Information and Technology Branch. The purpose of this unit is to manage and respond to public-facing (external) data requests and share data with research funding partners.
Data Management, Data Analysis, and Ad Hoc Data Requests: Assist in reviewing and responding to ad hoc information requests from the Legislature, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, State Board of Education, and other decision makers. Assist in reviewing and responding to research requests, recommend approval or denial of requests, and provide detailed feedback to external researchers as appropriate. Review draft documents and publications from researchers and provide substantive feedback with a focus on data privacy and appropriate presentation of data tables within scholarly and other publicly disseminated materials.
Data Requests: Support the development of file specifications and extract data from the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) and other CDE data as needed in order to fulfill data requests from internal and external parties; assist internal and external data requestors in understanding and appropriately using CALPADS data; collaborate with other Division staff in providing data files for data requests; and work with the ORRP manager and the Legal Division in order to successfully route for approvals and manage data requests to ensure efficiency.
Communication: Assist with responding to inquiries from and interpret information for the public, media, government agencies, and the education community regarding student performance, school comparisons, and quality indicators; disseminate written summaries, PowerPoint presentations, and materials developed for the Division Web site; participate in various department-wide committees and/or outside group meetings; develop and make presentations for meetings and conferences; and consult with state and federal representatives from other states on data issues and indicators used to monitor and report on student progress and performance and important topics within the Education Research field.
Administrative Duties: Contribute to analyzing legislation containing data collection and management requirements, and other elements that impact Division and Department activities at the state and federal levels; participate in staff meetings; review internal CDE contracts for data privacy and security issues; keep supervisor apprised of the status of projects and problems; and perform other job-related duties as required.

Working Conditions
TELEWORK OPTION
This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.
