DUTIES:
Under direction from the Education Administrator I of the Language Policy and Leadership Office (LPLO), and general direction from the Director of the Multilingual Support Division, and working cooperatively with program units and supervisors throughout the California Department of Education (CDE), the consultant works independently on the assigned responsibilities and activities related to the LPLO's administration of English learner (EL) programs such as the Every Student Succeeds Act, Title III.
Provide information and technical assistance to the field. Assist with LPLO newsletter development. Provide research, program updates, exemplary practices and other timely information for the improvement of program services. Research and respond to request for information on language acquisition issues. Respond to calls and requests for information. Work closely with bilingual and other education consultants in the department to ensure that services for EL students are addressed and maintained.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent written and communication skills
Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws relating to English learners
Ability to perform well under pressure with time-sensitive, high-priority projects
Ability to travel - this position requires 5% travel
