Position Summary:
Chuck Latham Associates (CLA), the leading pet sales and branding agency is hiring for a part-time Education & Merchandising Ambassador (EMA), to promote and represent various leading pet product brands in the pet specialty retail space. This position will require time in stores merchandising represented brands and educating/training the store staff to drive brand awareness and explain nutritional benefits of the brands we represent. The pay for this position will be hourly PLUS mileage/drive time reimbursement and a monthly cell phone stipend. This is a permanent, professional, part-time position offering flexibility and work-life balance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, and other duties as assigned:
  • Education Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in on-going training to gain a deep understanding of pet food nutrition and the features/benefits of represented brand(s).
  • Visit key retail partners monthly to educate and train staff members on how to approach and engage customers to recommend represented brand(s).
  • Support and develop relationships with staff members to build trust and credibility of represented brand(s).
  • Present assigned nutritional topics to staff members using approved presentations, flyers, dry food bags, or other provided materials.
  • Perform role play scenarios with staff members to train them on how to approach and recommend represented products to their customers.
  • Engage customers on represented products to model the correct approach and recommendation script for staff members.
  • Collaborate on a regular basis with a cross-functional team to include brand education team, brand development team, and corporate retail partners.
  • Merchandising Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Visit assigned retail locations monthly to ensure represented products are properly displayed in each aisle and secondary display.
  • Build and maintain relationships by serving as a liaison between represented brands, store associates, and management in stores
  • Educate and engage staff members using approved flyers or other materials to promote brand awareness of represented brands.
  • Verify represented brands are on shelf and collaborate with appropriate staff members to correct inventory levels or placement.
  • Perform merchandising tasks as assigned, including but not limited to resets, cut-ins, product rotation, IRC placement, building incremental displays, and correcting shelf availability.
  • Participate in monthly district project review calls.
  • Demo opportunities available on a seasonal basis
  • Other project duties as assigned.
Qualifications should include:
  • Preferred: Experience working in a Veterinary Clinic and/or as a Merchandiser representing products in a pet specialty environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule depending on the needs of the retailer, which may require schedule approvals before completing visits.
  • Willingness to learn about pet food nutrition.
  • Planning/organizing—the individual is a highly motivated self-starter who demonstrates effective time management skills and schedule planning.
  • Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and can deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Oral communication—the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates strong group presentation skills and ability to coach/train others.
  • Written Communication—the individual edits work for spelling and grammar, presents numerical data effectively, and is able to read and interpret written information. Excellent proofreading skills a must.
  • Quality control—the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality. Strong attention to detail
  • Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance
  • Strong technical skills with smartphone/tablet technology
  • Communication—the individual has strong communication skills and is personable to be able to interact with CLA team, Brand Team, retail store associates, and shopping customers
Minimum Requirements:
  • Set your own schedule, but must be flexible to visit assigned locations Monday thru Friday between 9am-4pm
  • Must have a smart device/tablet with access to reliable internet
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a reliable vehicle to be used for work purposes with at least the minimum auto insurance coverage necessary
  • Access to a printer is recommended
  • Prior experience with product knowledge training and merchandising a plus
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Reaching, bending, crouching, kneeling, walking
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
