Education and Leadership Specialist
Job Summary: The Education and Leadership Specialist is responsible for the oversight of all Education and Leadership Programs at their clubhouse(s). They are responsible for the delivery of Education and Leadership programming, including planning, development, reporting, and implementation in collaboration with the Program Services team. Additionally, the Education and Leadership Specialist is required to assist with other operational functions of the clubhouse. May serve as acting Clubhouse supervisor in the absence of the Clubhouse Director and Assistant Clubhouse Director.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management
1. Plans, creates, and oversees the administration of Education and Leadership programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes:
  • Establishes Education and Leadership program objectives through collaboration with the Program Services team that are consistent with organizational goals and mission
  • Oversees the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals
  • Ensures that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive respect, recognition, instruction, and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area
  • Demonstrates leadership in relation to member, parent, staff and visitor conduct and safety to ensure a proper environment for the development of members
2. Evaluates programs on a continual basis and ensures programming addresses the gender and cultural diversity of members. This includes, but is not limited to, Power Hour, Torch Club, Jr. Youth of the Year (YOY), STEAM, MyFuture.net, Keystone, Youth of the Year (YOY), and advocacy
3. Ensures program requirements are fulfilled, deadlines met, and that Clubhouse Staff understand the Education and Leadership programs at the clubhouse
4. Serves as a mentor/role model for members. Provides direction to members through the establishment and enforcement of standards, expectations, and consequences for inappropriate youth behavior in accordance with organization guidelines. Applies corrective action that is fair, consistent and age appropriate. Provides written documentation and support when appropriate for conduct/behavior issues. May consult parents/guardians with the approval of Clubhouse leadership
5. Promotes and communicates programs, activities, events, and field trips to members and families
6. Assists club staff in the retention and recruitment of members through outreach efforts
7. Oversees cleanliness and safe operation of the Education and Leadership area(s). Also assists other staff with the cleanliness and safe operation of the clubhouse and grounds when needed
8. Works cohesively with club staff to foster a positive environment for staff and members. Assists and participates in all aspects of the clubhouse including, but not limited to other program areas, other programs, or other scheduled duties as assigned.
Relationship Management
1. Internal-Engages with members, families, Clubhouse staff, volunteers, Club Support Staff, Assistant Clubhouse Director, and Clubhouse Director to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines and instructions, report, and facilitate the implementation of programs. Participates in meetings to promote alignment and collaboration with other departments and clubhouses
2. External-Fosters and maintains partnerships with community groups, schools, members’ families, and others to identify youth who may benefit from participation in programs
Administrative Duties
1. Completes required documentation for programs
2. Compiles and produces accurate tracking of programs and program metrics including, but not limited to, monthly reports, program schedules, daily attendance
3. Assists with other Clubhouse administrative duties as needed
Additional Responsibilities
1. Participate in required operational events
2. Enforces and abides by Clubhouse rules, organization policies and procedures
3. Implements special projects, events, and activities
4. Provides attention and direction to special needs children
5. Maintains a professional appearance and bearing reflective of the high standards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada
6. Drives club van for field trips, school pickups, maintenance visits, or as otherwise directed
7. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Skills/Knowledge Required
  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field is preferred
  • A minimum of two years progressively responsible experience working with youth in an academic setting, education programming, or youth leadership and advocacy or one year of experience as a Youth Development Professional (YDP) at Boys & Girls Clubs organization or equivalent experience
  • Ability to deal effectively with children aged 6 through 18, in small group, large group and free play settings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle competing demands
  • Skilled in time management with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to organize, direct, and coordinate programs, activities and events
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, project management and planning skills
  • Ability to interact well with staff, volunteers, and other related agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) products
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, walk, and stand for prolonged periods, walk quickly on occasion
  • Ability to bend or twist at the neck and trunk to supervise youth
  • Ability to squat, stoop and kneel to access low level storage areas, cabinets and supplies,
  • Ability to reach forward and above the head to access high shelves, supply areas, etc.
  • Ability to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion for typing
  • Ability to grasp and hold a variety of items
  • Manual and finger dexterity sufficient for typing, making minor equipment repairs, etc
  • Ability to lift articles weighing up to 20 pounds from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and shoulder to overhead
  • Ability to lift articles weighing up to 25 pounds from floor to waist, such as snack bar supplies and recreation equipment
  • Ability to carry items weighing up to 25 pounds for a distance of 25 feet
  • Ability to push and pull articles weighing up to 50 pounds such as recreation equipment, furniture, pool tables and other equipment, and supplies over carpeted and tiled floors, concrete, blacktop or paved roads and other rough outdoor surfaces
  • Ability to work inside and outside, in temperatures above 100 degrees, and in inclement weather (seasonally/occasionally)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and/or cramped body positions such as closets and other storage areas
  • Ability to work in loud noise areas with hearing protection, when needed, such as busy programs areas where many youth are assembled for activities
  • Ability to work in athletic environment around team sports occasionally
  • Ability to see distant and close objects clearly and with good depth perception for supervision of youth
  • Ability to hear conversations in both a noisy and quiet environment, and ability to tell from where a sound is coming
  • Ability to discern differences among bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through speech
  • Ability to work with oils or petroleum products and chemicals such as solvents and degreasers
  • Ability to work with certain types of gases, fumes, or sprays
  • Ability to safely operate a 15 passenger motor vehicle and transport passengers
Other Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to effectively work alone (not within shouting distance of others)
  • Ability to occasionally work irregular or extended hours
