SalarySummary:
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and driven Editorial Selections Associate to help the Editorial Team find the best new books for our members each month. This person will research forthcoming titles, read manuscripts, share feedback on books read, and pitch recommendations they feel strongly about to the Editorial Director. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong taste in commercial and upmarket adult fiction and a passion for discovering and championing emerging authors.
What you will do…
- Research, find, and advocate for books you think are excellent and have the potential to become commercially successful for Book of the Month
- Leverage your existing relationships with industry partners, and develop new relationships, to learn about forthcoming titles that Book of the Month should consider
- Read manuscripts and evaluate their potential for the Book of the Month audience
- Provide analysis and feedback on titles read and propose recommendations to the Editorial Director
- Over time, incorporate feedback and learnings that help the Editorial Team refine our book evaluation program
- Conceptualize and develop other projects in original content
What you should have…
- Minimum of four years, full time experience as a book scout, literary agent, professional acquisitions editor, or book journalist with fiction experience.
- An avid reader who is well-versed in adult fiction, authors, and successful commercial and literary fiction.
- Deep knowledge of the adult fiction landscape and know what makes a book amazing.
- Excellent taste. And the ability to articulate it well!
- Familiarity with the Book of the Month brand and excitement to help us pursue our mission.
- Savvy communication: You assert your opinions about what works and doesn’t work strongly and clearly.
Minimum requirements:
- History of relevant and successful book/manuscript scouting experience
- Deep knowledge of and familiarity with commercially successful adult fiction published in the last few years
Salary Range: $70,000 - $110,000
