We are currently seeking an experienced Editorial Director focused in Dermatology & Aesthetics to join the team! The Editorial Director oversees all editorial, print, and digital for Practical Dermatology and Modern Aesthetics while ensuring the quality of content.

What a day in the life of an Editorial Director looks like:

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Creates and maintains annual and monthly production schedules
  • Organize and maintain tracker for both Practical Dermatology & Modern Aesthetics
  • Collaborate with the team and editorial board to explore potential story ideas, topics, and engage with physician authors
  • Delegate between staff and freelancers when needed for non-physician author articles and columns
  • Content development for custom programs and/or assign internal team for content development on sponsored programs and advertising supported programs
  • Assign conference coverage between team members (virtual or in person)
  • Act as second read of content from medical editors when needed.
  • Assist with YoungMD Connect content/editing and assign out to team as needed
  • Daily communications with authors/clients/colleagues via telephone, email, and in-person
  • Takes on large-scale tasks as needed
  • Guides, mentors, and reviews junior staff in day-to-day activity
  • Contributes to overall process improvement initiatives
  • Complies with the U.S. Copyright Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act

What we expect from qualified candidates:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, journalism, communications, or related field
  • 7 or more years of substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading, requiring little or no supervision
  • 2 or more years of management experience
  • Excellent composition and writing skills
  • Strong command of the English language, including grammar and syntax
  • Detailed knowledge of AMA style
  • Comfortable leading discussions with authors and industry members
  • Thorough knowledge of publishing (all platforms)
  • Ability to establish and oversee deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, InDesign (or other typesetting program), and web publishing platforms
  • Knowledge of the dermatology and aesthetics fields preferred
