Summary:
In this multi-faceted role, the incumbent is responsible for creating a high-volume of general aviation-related content across all AOPA media channels. This includes print, online, video, podcasts, and social media channels. The ideal candidate excels in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented work environment and is exceptional at producing quality content for the right medium.
Responsibilities:
- Create fun, inspirational, and educational content about the people, aircraft, and airports that make general aviation so appealing to current and prospective members.
- Write and deliver stories daily, weekly, and monthly for various publications and outlets.
- Collaborate with video and photography teams on multimedia content as needed.
- Report on and write about industry developments for online, social media, and print consumption utilizing knowledge and information gained through research and interviews.
- Deepen our connection with members through outstanding and engaging stories for AOPA’s magazines and website by leveraging standard journalistic reporting methods (ex. research, interviews, observation, fly in a wide range of general aviation aircraft to convey the experience to pilots, etc.
- Reach the next generation of pilots by utilizing the latest media trends and practices, including social media and action cameras.
- Understand the fluid and changing dynamics of social media to effectively engage with diverse demographics.
- Be conversant in established, recent, and upcoming social media platforms to effectively share content leveraging one’s own social media presence.
- Apply knowledge and understanding of action cameras to effectively partner with others to ensure proper placement and capturing of relevant video.
- Edit text and layouts.
Education, Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required. Major in English or journalism preferred.
- Minimum of three years of multi-channel media experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work on deadline.
- Ability to learn and work in content management systems
Preferred Experience
- Private pilot certificate.
- Aviation experience, including knowledge about using general aviation aircraft on personal and business missions.
