Job Description
The Edible Education Programs Leader at Whole Foods Market will help lead innovation and strategic growth toward accomplishing the mission of WK through our edible programs. This position will maintain and evolve the programs through evaluative processes, bring Edible Education-focused subject matter expertise, and work collaboratively with a multitude of partners across three countries to help shape the vision and future direction of the organization, while embedding values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all programmatic work.
This full-time Team Member position will help develop and manage strategic edible programmatic mission goals of WK, while ultimately leading and mentoring our internship program. This position will support leadership of the Programs team and steward the connection between nutrition equity and our programs with our operations team members, catalyzing whole healthy school environments!
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working regionally/nationally with a clear understanding and empathy for challenges faced by resource-limited school districts, experience developing and leading innovative Edible Education Programs, leading and mentoring junior team members, and a passion for children’s nutrition and storytelling.

Whole Kids, in its 13th year, is on a mission to improve children’s health and wellness through their nutrition by supporting schools and inspiring families! We support a network of more than 12,000 schools and dozens of national / regional partners and are catalysts in transforming the way we nourish our children. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Program Management
    • Collaborate on and support planning and execution of growth and development of WK’s edible programs in the U.S., U.K., and Canada
    • Includes overseeing and evolving existing edible grant programs and the development and revision of curriculum and training in order to produce a robust portfolio of culturally inclusive programs
    • Develop plans to meet established goals for projects according to timelines and key deadlines and facilitating collaboration with cross-functional teams. Support other day-today administration tasks in support of the WK’s operations
  • Grant Administration
    • Coordinate, implement, and maintain a range of programs and activities through the life cycle of grants, alongside WK Programs Team (Director, Program Specialist, and Interns).
    • Support grant implementation in coordination with team members as needed for multiple large grant cycles during the year (e.g. Garden and Bee Grant programs).
    • Provide guidance and mentorship on overall grant flow processes and technical assistance on specific grant guidelines as needed, while administering select key components of the grant cycles such as payment oversight
    • This position may provide grant administration support to Whole Cities and Whole Planet programs
  • Communications
    • Guide strategic storytelling of our edible work and develop relationships and consistent communication with all internal and external stakeholders, including Board, Communications team, Revenue team, and Whole Foods Market
  • Finance Management and Reporting
    • Provide support to WK Senior Programs Director in planning programmatic budget and in analysis and reporting to ensure WK grantmaking meets established strategic goals
    • Support with data collection and reporting to effectively communicate WK Impact
    • Manage, evaluate, and communicate financial insights for an annual multi-million-dollar program investment budget
  • Other
    • Provide leadership and directional support that furthers our commitment to an equitable and inclusive organizational culture and supports a growing programmatic team
    • Engage in team culture, supporting off-site events and projects
    • Other programmatic, project and operational duties, as needed
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
  • Passion for the mission of Whole Kids and an understanding of and deep connection with Whole Foods Market Core Values
  • A ‘think-big’ mentality, strategic thinker with experience developing, operationalizing, and evaluating innovative comprehensive programs while taking initiative and independently identifying solutions
  • Proven relationship builder with ability to earn trust with diverse of stakeholders and a deep respect and regard for the inherent strengths and capacities within every community
  • 5+ years of program leadership experience and a strong working knowledge of Edible Education and current developments in fields of child nutrition, food justice, and education
  • 3+ years of experience in a team management role managing individuals including direct reports, both local and remote, full-time and contract
  • A proven understanding and ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once in a collaborative environment where every role includes a full range of responsibilities from hands-on to strategic
  • Commitment to sharing power and leadership to drive programmatic outcomes, including measuring success by growth, connection, engagement, and development
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage lots of details simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills (English preferred) including ability to give clear direct feedback, set clear expectations, and connect with people on a personal level through excellent service
  • College degree or equivalent experience welcome
  • Responsive and committed to follow-through in a fast paced and rapidly moving environment

  • Willingness to engage in continuous learning and training

Additional Job Requirements
This position is based in Austin, Texas at the Whole Foods Market Global Headquarters. We work a 40-hour week and workdays are typically Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with occasional weekend and evening hours for events. Currently, we offer a hybrid work-from home option with majority in-person office time expected. Semi-frequent travel with programmatic partners is required up to 30%. Cover letter preferred.
