Economic Empowerment Coordinator

$20 an Hour

Mid-Shift: 12PM to 8PM, some flexibility to accommodate the schedule of working Program Participants.

Qualifications

A high school diploma/equivalency and a two-year degree in a relatable field or four years’ experience working in the domestic violence field or human services and financial literacy is required.

Principal Job Duties

1. Developing and implementing an Economic Empowerment program for survivors accessing services. 45%

  • a. Adapt and deliver the approved Economic Empowerment curriculum.
  • b. Organize and conduct groups, classes and other facilitated activities to educate and support survivors in economic self-sufficiency.
  • c. Assist survivors with information regarding microloans, micro enterprises, earned income tax credits and matched savings/individual developmental accounts.
  • d. Collaborate with community agencies including, but not limited to: local literacy programs, career centers, dress for success programs and local libraries.
  • e. Develop working relationships and MOU’s with community agencies that can assist with housing or employment options.
  • f. Conduct extensive outreach in the community to assist survivors with local literacy programs, GED programs, English as a Second Language programs and other identified referral sources.
  • g. Develop, implement and train on financial safety planning.
  • h. Provide economic advocacy to survivors.
  • i. Assist survivors in developing a financial plan for their future.
  • j. Assist survivors in developing a budget to support their financials goals.

2. Assisting survivors of domestic violence with identifying and securing affordable housing. 25%

  • a. Assist survivors in identifying safe and affordable housing choices.
  • b. Assist with application processes.
  • c. Connect them with community resources that can assist with housing needs.
  • d. Assist in the development of a financial plan around housing and their personal needs.
  • e. Assist them in gather necessary paperwork for application process.

3. Assisting survivors of domestic violence with identifying and attaining their employment goals. 25%

  • a. Connect to community resources to assist with professional development.
  • b. Assist with paperwork, application for school or employment.
  • c. Assist with the development of a resume.
  • d. Conduct safety planning around going to school or work.

4. Follow all policy and procedures for organization and ensure shelter operating procedures are followed through. 3%

  • a. Maintain data collection program and document all services provided daily.
  • b. Provide services to all residents as outlined in policies and procedures.
  • c. Ensure all grant deliverables and guidelines are met.

5. Ensure that all administrative responsibilities are carried out. 2%

  • a. Make copies of needed file items.
  • b. Review files for quality assurance.
  • c. Maintain professional demeanor and appropriate dress at all times.

6. Ensure that training hours are maintained each year and reported appropriately to supervisors for documentation in employee files. 0%

7. Ensure the facility and work area is safe, clean and free of hazards. 0%

8. Complete any other assignments at the direction the Outreach Manager and/or CEO.

Responsibilities to Survivors
Employees of the Beacon Center will:

1. Treat all participants with consideration, respect, and with full recognition of their human dignity and individuality.

2. Provide care, and services that are adequate, appropriate, and in compliance with relevant state, local, and federal laws and regulations.

3. Ensure that survivors are notified and involved in all decisions that impact them, their legal cases, that status within services and their families.

4. Ensure survivors are involved in all goal setting and plans to meet their individual needs.

5. Not share survivor information with anyone without their expressed written consent.

6. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the survivor’s situation and ensure survivors have the right to deny the release of information to anyone for any reason at any time.

7. Provide survivors with an explanation of services in accordance with the goals and actions plans.

8. Ensure survivors have the right and opportunity to object to, or terminate, any goals or actions.

9. Treat survivors in a manner that is ethical and free from abuse, mistreatment, exploitation, and/or physical restraint.

10. Not discriminate based on race, creed, color, age gender, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, disabilities, and any other classification prohibited under state or federal law including the American with Disabilities Act, 28 CFR 35, and the Fair Housing Act, 42 U.S.C. – 3604.

11. Provide survivors information on any center guidelines that apply to them.

12. Provide that all reasonable requests are responded to promptly and adequately within the capacity of the center; and provide access to the center’s grievance procedure.

Agency Requirements

1. Continuously uphold and support the agencies survivor focused, empowerment-based philosophy by providing equal opportunity for individual choice and by making educational information available to all survivors.

2. Will act as an advocate to survivors when communicating or partnering with other service organizations by providing education and reducing the incidents of judgments, blame or any other unethical communication or practice.

3. Maintaining appropriate and healthy boundaries with survivors and co-workers.

4. Continually challenge yourself and your co-workers to improve services and act in the best interest of survivors.

5. Continually strive to maintain cultural competence.

6. Recognize that societal oppressions such as racism, sexism and homophobia occur daily and strive to eliminate the negative impacts of these oppressions on survivors.

7. Maintaining a professional demeanor reflecting positively upon the Beacon Center and the participants we serve at all times.

8. Dress professionally and appropriately representing the Beacon Center and the participants we serve with integrity.

9. Strive to continually educate yourself and maintain current knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and the impacts on survivors and children.

10. Provide feedback to the Beacon Center that seeks to improve services and increase the accessibility of our services.

11. Reflect positively on the Beacon Center and personally support the positive reputation of the organization in the community.

Work Environment:

All staff of Beacon Center is expected to practice ethical communication, show good judgement, and maintain strict confidentiality of the participants served.

Required Skills Include:

professional presentation, excellent verbal communication and writing skills, public speaking skills, ethical communication skills, good judgment, desire to advocate on behalf of survivors, ability to perform calmly in crisis situations, and a valid Florida driver’s license, insurance, a safe driving record and reliable transportation. Computer skills including working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher, public speaking skills, training facilitation and the ability to develop programs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
