Form of workPerforms ultrasound examinations of the cerebral, peripheral, and abdominal vessels to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disorders affecting circulation. May perform therapeutic procedures such as pseudoaneurysm compression. Records and maintains test data and prepares preliminary interpretations of test results. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a physician or manager. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Examinations performed may include, but are not limited to, trans-thoracic echocardiograms, trans-esophageal echocardiograms, stress and contrast echocardiograms (utilizing commercially prepared contrast agents). Experience in placing intravenous lines and administration of IV medications is preferred. Experience in EKG interpretation and cardiac stress testing is preferred.
Registered as a Cardiac Sonographer or Vascular Technologist/sonographer by either American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International Required.
Under certain conditions, may be exposed to blood and/or body fluids or potentially infective materials. Requires constant hearing, speaking, vision and repetitive hand movement. Requires attention to detail despite frequent interruptions.
