Position Summary
The Skagit Valley College (SVC) Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP) is accepting applications for temporary part-time Food/Custodial Aide positions (hours do not exceed 19 hours.) This position works at designated ECEAP sites for Anacortes. This position is responsible for preparing meals along with cleaning and sanitizing dishes, utensils, food preparation equipment, and service areas. Additionally, these positions will clean and sanitize restrooms, perform general cleaning tasks for the Center such as dusting and trash removal, provide clean-up of activities in classroom areas, and assist with the supervision of ECEAP students. These positions work under the supervision of the Site Manager.
This is a part-time, hourly position, typically working 19 or fewer hours per week during the period of Tuesday through Friday within business hours of 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Temporary positions may only work 1050 hours or 12 consecutive months from the date of hire, whichever comes first (WAC 357-04-045) Work days and hours may vary based on the need of the program. The exact schedule will be worked out with the candidate selected for hire.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review and follow a cycle menu, assuring appropriate USDA elements and adequate food portions are available for the number and age of the children enrolled;
  • Prepare food for breakfast, and/or snacks, and prepare and/or serve lunches at the Center;
  • Support classroom staff in ensuring appropriate serving sizes are offered, including identifying correct serving utensils;
  • Maintain required records of food purchases and preparation as requested by Health, Safety, and Nutrition Coordinator;
  • Follow appropriate food handling practices, using disposable gloves, keeping foods at the proper temperature, and recording food temperatures as requested;
  • Assist with keeping accurate records of daily attendance and USDA-eligible meals served;
  • Clean up after breakfast and lunch, utilizing proper dishwashing methods to assure sanitization of dishes and food service equipment. Disposes of food waste using an appropriate container;
  • Maintain awareness of children's special dietary needs, assuring substitutions are provided as appropriate;
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and appliances;
  • Clean and sanitize classrooms including cleaning and disinfecting tables, and counters, sweeping, mopping, and or vacuuming floors, and cleaning and sanitizing restrooms;
  • Empty garbage, trash, and recycling containers;
  • Perform periodic cleaning of cupboards, high and low dusting, cleaning inside windows, and other general Center cleaning tasks assigned;
  • May assist staff with clean-up activities from the classroom;
  • May assist in the supervision of children upon arrival/departure, on the playground, and in the classroom and/or restrooms;
  • May assist in children's self-help skills;
  • May assist children in modeling family-style eating routines.
Other Duties:
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with ECEAP policies and procedures;
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and/or understanding of:
  • Kitchens and dining routines involved in preparing and serving food;
  • Operation of standard kitchen appliances and equipment;
  • Foodservice cleanliness and sanitary conditions;
  • Housekeeping practices and custodial cleaning techniques;
  • The safe use of cleaning chemicals.
Ability to:
  • Perform clean-up in a variety of environments, which may include and around blood, vomit, body fluids, and excretions;
  • Twist, climb, bend, kneel, squat, stand, walk, sit, lift, and carry;
  • Identify, access, and apply appropriate policies, regulations, and procedures;
  • Effectively read, understand and interpret information and ideas;
  • Maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Actively contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the attainment of organizational goals.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school completion, GED, or equivalent;
  • One (1) year of Experience or ability to perform duties in cleaning, sanitization, and custodial work.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in food service;
  • Experience in an early learning setting.

Salary and Benefits:
  • The rate of pay is $15.74 per hour.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Have or ability to obtain, a Washington State driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
  • Additionally, pursuant to RCW 28B.112.080, applicants must declare whether they are the subject of any substantiated findings of sexual misconduct in any current or former employee or are currently being investigated for, or have left a position during an investigation into, a violation of any sexual misconduct policy at the applicant's current or past employer. By law, post-secondary education institutions cannot hire an applicant who refuses to declare the existence or non-existence of an investigation or findings subject to this statute.
  • Meet all federally mandated requirements related to ECEAP including but not limited to continuing education requirements and all Washington State laws and College policies related to the ECEAP and SVC employment.
  • Completion of academic degree(s) will be verified through receipt of official transcripts at the time of hire.
WAC 357-04-045 Part-Time Temporary Work Rules: Temporary positions may only work 1050 hours or 12 consecutive months from date of hire, whichever comes first (WAC 357-04-045)
The provisions of WAC 357-04-045 requires:
  1. The employee is employed twelve consecutive months or less;
  2. The employee is employed for one thousand fifty hours (1050) or less in that same twelve consecutive month period which begins from the original date of hire or July 1, 2022, whichever is later; and
  3. The employee is limited to one appointment only with the same higher education employer that meets the criteria in (a) and (b) of this subsection.
