A sweet family on the Upper East Side of NYC is seeking a mother's helper or nanny/housekeeper for their two children, ages 2-years-old and 7-months-old. The family's older child has a rare genetic disorder and is significantly developmentally delayed, so needs care more similar to what a baby would need. The schedule can either be Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm (35 hours) or can be part-time with three longer days on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for example - they're very flexible for the right candidate.
Mom is very hands-on and is the primary caregiver for the two boys. She works part-time, so the nanny would take over care of the children when she's on calls. Job duties will include helping her to care for both children and following her lead with parenting philosophies and daily routines. The 7-month-old is on time for his milestones, so is crawling, playing independently, and sitting up on his own. The role primarily involves ensuring both children are happy and calm. There will be very minimal specialized care needed for the older child, but the candidate will need to be comfortable learning the protocol in case he were to have a seizure. They are uncommon and mostly happen overnight, so the possibility of the nanny handling one on their own is unlikely. The ideal candidate has a happy disposition but is super calm and not high energy or loud. You must be comfortable working with mom on a team and deferring to her on decision-making. The older child's genetic disorder makes it such that he thrives in a low stimulation environment. Generally, he is very calm and wants to be rocked, bounced, put in his swing, gently spoken to, or read to. He is sensitive to strong odors, so the nanny must be a non-smoker and must be comfortable not wearing perfume or using strong-smelling detergents for work clothes. It would be a plus if the nanny is interested in traveling once or twice a year with the family internationally. If you're interested and are legal to work in the US, apply to EB375.
