Early Childhood Lead Guide Summer 2024 Program

Headwaters School is seeking lead guides for the 2024 Early Childhood Summer Program for 4-week (June 3-28), 5-week (July 1-August 3), or 9-week (June 3-August 3) terms.

For nine weeks in the summer Headwaters School hosts a summer program for children ages 18 mos.-5 years. In our summer programs, our guides nurture a culture that promotes a growth mindset, a collaborative spirit, a joyful environment, and the achievement of high expectations. Our faculty and staff ensure all members of our community understand their role in advancing issues of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Our faculty members are responsible for bringing our Purpose statement to life: to cultivate identity formation, foster empathy, and embrace diversity to bring more peace to the world. In addition, they guide our students to live authentically, think expansively, and create bravely. We invite our students, guides, staff, parents, and trustees to be Peacemakers, Advocates, Creators, and Thinkers.

The Summer Program Lead Guide reports directly to our Summer Camp Manager. Our ideal candidate will have Montessori certification, as well as a Bachelor’s degree.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred
  • Montessori certification preferred, if not certified, minimum 3 years of experience in Montessori classroom required

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works as a lead guide with approximately 14 18 mos.-3 year olds or 20 3-5 year olds in a setting with an assistant and support staff
  • Support the children through their summer experience
  • Maintain an environment that meets the sensitive period/plane of development of the children he/she works with
  • Serve as a leader to assistant and support staff
  • Maintain communication that supports an understanding of the summer program, develops positive relationships with the Headwaters community, and protects the privacy and confidentiality of each student and family in the community
  • Maintain an ongoing dialogue with the Summer Camp Manager to coordinate curriculum integration and implementation
  • Establish a positive relationship with parents of the community and maintain regular communication with regard to their child's specific needs, as well as helping to develop an understanding of the summer program
  • Create and distribute a weekly camp newsletter via email
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and on school premises
  • Serve as an ambassador of the School's mission and philosophy
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

This is an hourly position. Pay is $28/hour for guides without full Montessori certification. Pay is $30/hour for guides with Montessori certification. Preference will be given to candidates who commit to nine-week terms. Nine-week employees will receive 5 paid days of leave. Five-week employees will receive 2 paid days of leave. Four-week employees will receive 2 paid days of leave. Scheduling of leave is subject to approval by the Summer Camp Manager.

Guides will receive free tuition for children enrolled in Headwaters Primary or Elementary summer programs during weeks worked.
